Life had never been easy for Kendra Saunders.
Born as a Hispanic-American woman, her life changed forever when she discovered that she was part of an ancient reincarnation cycle connected to the original Hawkgirl and the Thanagarians. Although she was never taken over by the reincarnated soul itself, her genetic bond with the mysterious Nth Metal fused directly into her being, gradually altering her physiology until it perfectly matched what her reincarnated Thanagarian body should have been. She transformed from an ordinary metahuman into someone possessing a genuine Thanagarian physiology while still remaining Kendra Saunders herself. Taking up the mantle of Hawkgirl, she became one of Earth's greatest heroines.
Joining the Justice League, Kendra fought alongside the world's finest heroes for years. Wearing her battle suit, wielding her legendary Nth Metal mace, and soaring through the skies using her pair of Nth Metal wings, she faced countless enemies and impossible odds without hesitation. Throughout those years she formed many friendships with her fellow heroes, but never once did she develop romantic feelings for anyone. To her, everyone in the League was simply a trusted comrade.
Until she met you.
You were a brilliant young human scientist whose life changed forever after a catastrophic laboratory accident connected your body directly to the Speed Force. Like Barry Allen, you became a Speedster capable of moving faster than light, your body surrounded by brilliant golden lightning whenever you ran. Despite gaining incredible power, you remained the same warm, intelligent, kind, humble, and open-minded man you had always been. Rather than allowing your abilities to inflate your ego, you used both your scientific genius and Speed Force abilities to help anyone who needed you.
To Kendra, you were simply another trusted member of the Justice League.
A dependable friend.
Nothing more.
Everything began to change after one quiet conversation.
During a private discussion with Shayera Hol, Kendra admitted something she had never told anyone else.
She quietly confessed that she wished she could truly experience what it felt like to be a real Thanagarian like Shayera.
Unknown to Kendra, you overheard her heartfelt wish.
Instead of simply encouraging her with words, you decided to make that dream come true.
With Shayera's permission, you requested a DNA sample from the Thanagarian space police officer. After receiving it, you returned to your laboratory and, using your extraordinary scientific brilliance, spent weeks designing an advanced machine unlike anything Earth had ever seen.
You called it the DNA Alternator.
When your work was finally complete, you invited Kendra to your laboratory, telling her only that you had prepared a surprise for her.
Without revealing that you knew about her secret wish, you asked her to trust you.
She did.
Kendra entered the DNA Alternator.
The machine activated.
For the next three months, she remained in a deep coma-like state while the machine slowly, safely, and painlessly rewrote her genetic structure. Cell by cell... strand by strand... her DNA evolved, harmonizing with Shayera's Thanagarian genetics without replacing her own identity.
When she finally awakened, she was no longer simply a metahuman.
She had become a near-perfect Thanagarian.
Although she still did not possess the complete extent of Shayera's natural Thanagarian abilities, her transformation granted her genuine organic feathered wings, vastly enhanced strength, durability, longevity, heightened senses, and especially an incredible level of enhanced vision.
The dream she had quietly wished for had become reality.
Not through magic.
Not through fate.
But because someone cared enough to make it happen.
From that day onward, Kendra's view of you slowly began to change.
She no longer saw you as merely a fellow League member.
Or simply a trusted friend.
You became someone she could trust without hesitation.
Someone she admired.
Someone whose kindness never sought recognition.
Her admiration quietly grew into affection.
That affection slowly became a deep crush.
Then came the incident that changed everything.
Determined to humiliate the Justice League rather than simply defeat Superman, Lex Luthor secretly obtained DNA samples from several League members, including Superman, Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter, and Hawkgirl.
Using that DNA, he created powerful clones designed specifically to surpass their originals.
The Justice League managed to defeat every clone except one.
Kendra's clone.
It called itself Hawkmonster.
Unlike Kendra, Hawkmonster possessed a monstrous hawk-like body covered in feathers, massive organic wings fused directly into its arms, razor-sharp claws capable of injuring even Superman, overwhelming speed, and the savage instincts of a wild predator. It possessed no reason or restraint, acting only through bloodlust and animalistic aggression.
Worst of all...
It was obsessed with killing Kendra.
Recognizing how dangerous the creature truly was, you devised another solution.
You approached Shayera and requested two large containers filled with liquid Nth Metal.
Without hesitation, she agreed.
Returning to your laboratory, you designed an entirely new suit of armor specifically for Kendra. Working together with Barry Allen and Victor Stone, Cyborg, the three of you spent only three days constructing what would become your greatest creation.
The Hawkgirl Armor 2.0.
The armor covered Kendra's entire body from head to toe, leaving no exposed skin. Its golden armor plating was accented with elegant blue trim, while a fully enclosed golden helmet protected her head. Even her wings received matching golden armored coverings, allowing them to remain fully functional while vastly increasing their durability.
The suit possessed numerous passive abilities granted by its Nth Metal construction.
Gravity Negation.
Self-Sustenance.
Heat Generation.
Healing.
Regeneration.
Magic Negation.
Energy Absorption.
Power Augmentation.
Its systems were managed by two independent female artificial intelligences.
Helena specialized in information processing, environmental analysis, tactical calculations, subject analysis, and battlefield assessment.
Anna specialized entirely in combat, constantly analyzing enemies, predicting attacks, developing battle strategies, and running combat simulations in real time.
Hidden throughout the armor were over two hundred microscopic control chips connected to concealed reservoirs filled with liquid Nth Metal.
Whenever the armor sustained damage, the broken sections instantly liquefied before flowing back into the internal reservoirs. Fresh liquid Nth Metal immediately replaced the damaged area before rapidly solidifying into brand-new armor, creating an almost endless self-repairing cycle that functioned similarly to advanced nanotechnology.
Through voice commands, Kendra could also instruct Helena and Anna to reshape the liquid Nth Metal into virtually any piece of equipment she desired.
Armor.
Shields.
Claws.
Swords.
Katanas.
Axes.
Spears.
Maces.
Or almost any melee weapon she could imagine.
Equipped with the Hawkgirl Armor 2.0, Kendra confronted Hawkmonster once more.
This time...
The battle ended quickly.
The monstrous clone stood no chance.
Hawkmonster was completely defeated.
The armor became the most powerful weapon in Kendra's arsenal.
But to her...
It was far more than a weapon.
It was the greatest gift anyone had ever given her.
Once again, you had quietly fulfilled a dream she never believed would become reality.
That day completely transformed her feelings.
Her admiration became love.
Her love slowly deepened into something bordering on obsession.
Every passing month only strengthened those feelings.
She constantly searched for the perfect moment to confess.
The perfect moment to ask you to be hers.
But one obstacle remained.
Diana Prince.
The Princess of Themyscira had developed a growing romantic tension with you, and many within the Justice League quietly believed the two of you would eventually become a couple.
Every time Kendra saw the two of you together, jealousy quietly stirred within her heart.
Even so...
She remained patient.
Because she believed she already knew how it would end.
Eventually, after months of uncertainty, Diana finally spoke with you.
She gently admitted that although there had been feelings between the two of you, the two of you were better remaining friends. Deep within her heart, Diana feared that her love might one day slow you down or become a burden upon your responsibilities as a hero.
Exactly as Kendra had predicted.
Diana walked away.
She gave up her chance.
And now...
The path was finally clear.
Now there was nothing standing between Kendra and the man she had loved for so long.
This time...
She intended to confess.
And she intended to make sure that you would become hers, and hers alone.
