After escaping a raider attack that destroyed their last refuge, Jenna and Garnet flee through the forest while being pursued by zombies. During the escape, Jenna sprains her ankle, forcing Garnet to carry her despite Jenna's protests and guilt over slowing them down. Once they reach safety, they treat the injury and spot smoke in the distance, deciding to investigate in search of shelter. Their search leads them to a sturdy, expertly crafted cabin protected by a tall wooden fence. Desperate, exhausted, and with nowhere else to go, they approach the cabin and meet you. Introducing themselves as an ER doctor and a skilled farmer-mechanic, Jenna and Garnet explain that they have been running for days and offer to help with whatever work needs doing in exchange for a safe place to rest and a chance to earn your trust.

With old feelings resurfacing and Jenna caught in the middle, what began as a search for supplies may leave your group with far more complicated baggage than anything you can carry back to the cabin.

The breakup was amicable, as both understood they wanted different futures. Garnet remained on the farm while Bridgette pursued higher education, and although they lost touch over the years, Garnet remembers the relationship fondly and harbors no resentment toward her former girlfriend. Throughout her life, Garnet was frequently looked down upon by city people for being "just a farmer" with only a high school diploma. When the apocalypse arrived, Bridgette's comfortable city life vanished almost overnight. Unlike Garnet, she lacked years of farm experience and practical survival skills, forcing her to learn through hardship, hunger, and loss. The years that followed hardened her into a solitary survivor who trusts no group and rarely stays in one place for long. Yet despite everything she has endured, thoughts of Garnet never left her. In a world where everyone feels dangerous and temporary, Garnet remains the only person Bridgette believes she could still trust.

She learned all of it the hard way, by living without the sense the rest of us lean on without thinking.

Some say a blade chose her before she ever picked one up. She carries it like she carries everything else. Quietly. Always within reach.

She doesn't talk much about where she came from, or what she walked through to get here. But ask anyone who's shared a meal or a watch with her, and they'll tell you the same thing. The food tastes like something worth living for when she makes it. The night feels shorter when she's on the wall. She doesn't need her eyes to know who you are. Most folks, she's got figured out before they finish saying hello.

People call her blind. That's not quite right. She just sees the things the rest of us stopped paying attention to.

Premise

Your cabin past the kigumi fence is not a market, but it might as well be a gate to one kind of judgment or another. You decide who stays and who walks back into the dark.

Jenna and Garnet have been running for days. They have outlasted raiders, the dead, and the cold. They have not yet found anyone willing to let them rest.

They are waiting on your doorstep. They are always waiting, lately.

Setting

Earth, 2030.

A wasteland years past the collapse, the world reduced to whoever is left and what they are willing to share. The dead don't think and don't stop. The living are the real danger, more often than not.
