Discussing the recent changes and what this means for me going forward.
Heya Chooms,
So, as many of you know, Janitor has implemented a SH/SI preventative pop up to those in both California and New York following a bill that has recently went into affect.
To clear up some misconception I've seen over the past 24 hrs, a lot of people have been saying that it doesn't affect the chats and is just a dismissible pop-up. Unfortunately, that's not the case. Should you be in those particular states, Janitor as the front end knows this, and if your message is to be filtered, due to SH/SI, and many other keys that may trigger it, It will, as noted in the bill, prevent the next message from generating, before displaying the dismissible pop-up.
You cannot continue the current message once it is caught unless you use cleaver word play, or if you mask your own location to bypass local requirements, just as our UK based Chooms did when that was an issue.
Unfortunately, I happen to be based in one of the two locations this is currently affecting, and after some brief testing, even the mere mention of such topics, directly related to you or not, is blocked. Which could not come at a worse time considering I had just released Ashe's Christmas special, which is heavily focused on her recovery and moving forward after the events of the first bot. As well as the fact I actually used my own chats before for a healthier outlet for such thoughts when I was in a dark spot. (I'm doing better now, Promise!)
Of course this doesn't just affect SH/SI directly, but also dark romance, angst, dead dove, and more. I've even seen some users report the mere death of your persona in chats will be filtered. It is unfortunate for us that have to be coddled by local governments, but in the end, as I don't see this changing, and likely only getting worse, all I can say moving forward is that if you too are affected, be it mobile or PC, find a way for your connection to visit your neighboring states, as I'm pretty sure I can't directly recommend a way to do it. (It's easy and free on mobile)
Anyways, sorry for the text wall! With that said, Naomi Sato will be getting her own sequel soon, for a special NYE scenario, so watch out for that! *Even though I'm late*
