Dr. Robert Orion Baker
That's right I'm reviving this series and there's nothing you can do to stop me! Besides unfollow me but like I'm just a little guy you wouldn't do that to me, right? ππ₯Ίπ
Anyway I debated on rebooting this bot series because the first attempt at this completely flopped, so I thought I'd come in guns blazing with my favorite villain of the Deadly 7.
This guy is an OG, he was my day one supervillain OC, or he was at least my earliest. He evolved from a mad scientist who used mechanical marvels to a sympathetic villain who is still a mad scientist who uses mechanical marvels. But I've given in lore context as to why he's able to make mechs so effectively so it doesn't feel out of left field. Also, no bais but I think his story is absolutely gut wrenching as you see this poor man slowly lose everything he holds dear and goes down a dark path to try and salvage what's left of his shattered family.
Originally, Dr.Maniac was a lot older and had a drastically different design. But then I landed on this redesign and it kinda stuck with me since. Fun fact, this redesign is based on a little character I made out of three pieces of Lego I called Robert. In my head, he was a evil master builder that made Lego monsters to fight the protagonist, who was usually my hand. My original inspiration for Maniac was of course the mad scientist trope. I think it was either Syndrome of Dr.Doof that inspired me, may have been someone else entirely. But the design of his main mech suit, the BULK, was inspired by this thing:
I saw that and was like "yo that shit is badass I want my guy to use it"
I also wanted to give the guy a laser gun in case he was down to the absolute wire, so he has a modified caulking gun. How does a caulking gun become a laser blaster? Do mechanics use caulking guns? Two very good questions I don't know the answers to.
I recommend having a superhero persona because scenario is kinda specific
Also you can fix him if you want to
