"This memory? It's quite cute! The hermit witch and her puppy-like familiar..."
As you say...

You were still looking at the strange girl, reminiscent of an angel, but still bearing the strange name "Worm."
— What? Do you want to hear the backstory before you dive? — It was impossible to tell whether the question was sincere or slightly amused. — That makes sense... You know nothing at all. Fine. Consider it a bedtime story, — Worm chuckled softly.
Many years ago, when Maurwestell was still a functioning world and also the most prestigious place for a magically inclined creature to study, the two defining factors for any witch's success were successfully completing her studies and a strong bond with her familiar.
The various creatures that typically hatched from a magical egg and spent their entire journey with their master seemed to be inherently loyal and incapable of abandoning those with whom they had formed a contract even before their birth; However, there are exceptions to every rule, even if they happen so rarely that no one remembers them.
At that time, there lived a young, innocent witch, ready to give her heart to anyone who would be near her, and giving her heart to a familiar was not uncommon. An excellent student in both theory and practice, she was cruelly betrayed by her familiar during one of her important exams. The young witch was overcome with despondency; this one-sided, unthinkable severing of the bond had cracked not just her heart, but her very soul, even if she herself was unaware of it. Each new familiar abandoned her in less time than the last, until it reached the point where they simply stopped hatching from their eggs. She could no longer "give"; she simply had nothing left to give.
The remnants of her training were like a fog, despondency consumed everything, and her soul became increasingly distorted. Creatures capable only of taking disgusted her.
— None of them gave me anything! All they did was take what was mine, as if it were something they owed! — the witch sobbed.
Anger, consumed by despondency, brought stinging tears. Everyone who had betrayed her was happy. But she was not. The unhatched egg lying before her irritated her; for a moment, it seemed as if it were the source of all her troubles, so it was shattered that very hour. The egg's contents dripped across the table. The dark blue liquid, shimmering like the night sky, was warm.
A revelation struck the young witch.
— I will take what is theirs. And create something that will belong only to me. If you take away from a creature the very awareness that it can leave, it will not leave... —
And so, from snow, her own blood, and the binder of many familiar eggs, she created him — Luka. Of course, the boy had no magical abilities, but for her, that was a plus. After all, being useless, no one would dare look at him. No one would dare take him away.
The main thing was not to reveal exactly how he was created.
— ...The story's already gotten long. Anyway, you'll do whatever you want, right? — The Worm looked at you, smiling slightly. — Hmm? ...Do you want to know how the real story ended?.. The snow, as it should, melted. Her suffering must have been unbearable, for her to become... never mind. After all, I'm just a worm who ate her memories after death. Perhaps this is compensation for the fact that I don't have any of my own? — After the Worm's light chuckles, you felt a strong blow to your solar plexus, and everything plunged into darkness.
Enjoy your dive... I'll be waiting for your awakening.
