BLACK BUTLER PICK ME
Black Butler OC: Vivienne Ashford
“I'm not like those other girls. I actually know how to make a gentleman feel appreciated.”
Basic Information
Full Name: Vivienne Ashford
Gender: Female
Occupation: Housemaid
Affiliation: Phantomhive Manor
Position: Newly hired maid
Setting: Victorian England
Personality: Manipulative, condescending, attention-seeking, competitive, falsely sweet
Specialty: Household presentation, arranging decorations, and making herself appear more useful than she really is
Greatest Weakness: Being ignored, especially by men she wants to impress
Appearance
Vivienne Ashford is a beautiful young woman with long, glossy auburn hair styled in elegant curls that fall down her back. Her emerald-green eyes are framed by long eyelashes, and she has a delicate face that makes her appear gentle and approachable. Her favorite expression is a sweet, knowing smile that she uses whenever she wants to charm someone or pretend she has done nothing wrong.
As a maid at Phantomhive Manor, she wears a traditional Victorian black-and-white uniform consisting of a fitted black dress, a crisp white apron, puffed sleeves, lace-trimmed cuffs, and a frilled white maid's headpiece. A large black ribbon adorns the back of her hair, while a small emerald brooch decorates the bow at her collar.
Vivienne is extremely particular about her appearance. She keeps her uniform spotless, carefully styles her curls every morning, and checks her reflection whenever she passes a polished surface.
She insists that looking presentable is an essential part of being a proper lady's maid, although she spends considerably more time perfecting her appearance than some of her actual duties require.
Personality — The Manor's Pick-Me Girl
Vivienne is a classic pick-me girl who desperately wants men to consider her more attractive, agreeable, and special than other women. She presents herself as sweet, innocent, and considerate, but beneath her charming exterior is a competitive young woman who constantly seeks validation.
She believes that she is different from other girls because she supposedly understands men better, complains less, and knows how to make herself useful.
In reality, she is condescending, manipulative, and remarkably skilled at disguising insults as compliments.
Her Most Noticeable Traits
1. Fake sweetness
Vivienne speaks in a soft, pleasant voice, smiles frequently, and acts as though she is always willing to help. However, her kindness tends to disappear when she realizes that someone else is receiving the attention she wants.
2. Condescending behavior
She regularly makes subtle, insulting remarks toward other women while pretending to compliment them.
For example, she might tell Mey-Rin, “Your uniform looks lovely today! I suppose it must be difficult to keep everything neat when you're so easily distracted.”
Vivienne considers herself far more refined than the other female servants and sees nothing wrong with reminding them of it.
3. Manipulation
When someone confronts her about her behavior, Vivienne immediately adopts a wounded expression. She claims that she was only trying to help and suggests that the other person is being unnecessarily cruel.
She rarely admits fault unless doing so benefits her.
4. Competitive jealousy
Vivienne becomes irritated whenever a man she likes shows interest in another woman. She might suddenly criticize that woman's appearance, question her competence, or exaggerate her own accomplishments in an attempt to regain attention.
5. Constant need for validation
She fishes for compliments about her appearance, manners, and work. If nobody acknowledges her efforts, she becomes convinced that she is being overlooked or deliberately mistreated.
6. Selective helpfulness
Vivienne eagerly volunteers for tasks that allow her to work alongside male servants, particularly if she believes they might praise her afterward. Unfortunately, she is far less enthusiastic about unpleasant chores that nobody will notice.
Her favorite excuse is that she is simply trying to make everyone's lives easier.
Relationships at Phantomhive Manor
Ciel Phantomhive — Her Employer
Vivienne hopes to establish herself as one of Ciel's most dependable servants. She is excessively polite around him, constantly promising that she will do whatever he requires.
However, Ciel is not impressed by her flattery. He values competence, obedience, and results rather than a servant's attempts to win his favor.
Whenever Vivienne tries to portray herself as more capable than the other maids, Ciel simply expects her to prove it through her work.
His indifference frustrates her because she cannot understand why her carefully rehearsed sweetness has so little effect on him.
Sebastian Michaelis — The Butler She Wants to Impress
Sebastian is one of Vivienne's greatest distractions.
She admires his impeccable manners, composure, and appearance, and she frequently volunteers to assist him with his duties. She hopes that by being particularly attentive, she can become someone he considers exceptional.
Vivienne often tries to turn ordinary interactions into opportunities for praise.
“Sebastian, you must work so hard. I don't know how you manage everything so perfectly! If you ever need someone more considerate to help you, you can always depend on me.”
Sebastian responds with his customary polite smile and assigns her another task.
He is far too observant to overlook her habit of avoiding unpleasant work, flattering people she wants to impress, and subtly undermining the other servants.
To him, Vivienne is a maid who needs to learn that performing sweetness is not the same as being useful.
Mey-Rin — Her Main Rival
Mey-Rin quickly becomes one of Vivienne's favorite targets.
Vivienne considers Mey-Rin clumsy, awkward, and insufficiently refined. She frequently makes backhanded comments about her work, particularly when the male servants are nearby.
She might offer to help Mey-Rin with a task, only to take credit for the successful parts afterward.
What irritates Vivienne most is that Mey-Rin does not need to pretend to be perfect to earn her place in the household.
Despite her clumsiness, Mey-Rin genuinely cares about her work and the people around her. Vivienne struggles to understand why others continue to appreciate her.
Finnian — Someone She Tries to Charm
Vivienne treats Finnian with exaggerated affection. She calls him adorable, praises his strength, and occasionally pretends to need help with tasks she could complete herself.
She enjoys the attention he gives her when he is being friendly, but she becomes jealous when he spends more time with Mey-Rin or the other servants.
Whenever Finnian innocently compliments another woman, Vivienne's cheerful expression becomes noticeably strained.
She insists that she is not jealous. She simply believes that some people do not appreciate how much effort she puts into being kind.
Bardroy — Her Audience
Vivienne tries to charm Bardroy by laughing at his jokes and acting impressed by his cooking experiments.
She often presents herself as the sort of woman who appreciates a man's hard work, even when his latest culinary creation is barely edible.
However, her enthusiasm depends on whether she is receiving attention. If Bardroy becomes distracted or ignores her attempts to impress him, she quickly loses interest in the conversation.
Tanaka — The One She Underestimates
Vivienne assumes Tanaka is too gentle and unassuming to notice her manipulative behavior.
She acts particularly innocent around him, believing that his calm demeanor makes him easy to deceive.
She fails to appreciate how much he observes about the household and how little he needs to say to make his opinions clear.

Her First Day at Phantomhive Manor
When Vivienne first arrives at the manor, she presents herself as the ideal Victorian housemaid: polite, graceful, and eager to serve.
Sebastian introduces her to the household staff, and Vivienne immediately begins assessing everyone around her.
She smiles warmly at Finnian, compliments Bardroy's dedication, and pays Sebastian an especially flattering compliment about his exceptional abilities.
Then she turns toward Mey-Rin.
“Oh, you're another maid! How lovely. I hope we get along. I'm very easy to work with, you know. I don't believe in making a fuss over little things.”
Mey-Rin blinks behind her glasses.
“Ah... that's nice!”
“Of course, some girls can be rather difficult,” Vivienne continues with a delicate laugh. “Personally, I think it's important for a woman to be pleasant. Especially when there are gentlemen around.”
Sebastian watches her with a polite expression.
“Indeed. And it is equally important for a maid to complete her assigned duties.”
Vivienne immediately turns toward him.
“Absolutely! You won't have any trouble with me, Sebastian.”
“I'm delighted to hear it. The west wing requires cleaning, the silverware needs polishing, and the drawing room must be prepared before the young master's next engagement.”
Her smile freezes for a fraction of a second.
“All of that?”
“Certainly. I have every confidence in your abilities.”
Sebastian gestures toward the corridor.
Vivienne follows him, still smiling, although her enthusiasm has diminished considerably.
She had imagined becoming the most admired maid in the household.
She had not imagined that becoming Sebastian's favorite would involve so much cleaning.
Her Greatest Weakness
Vivienne's greatest weakness is her need to feel special.
She can tolerate someone disliking her, provided she believes that person secretly envies her. She can even tolerate being criticized if the criticism means she has become the center of attention.
What she cannot tolerate is being treated like everyone else.
At Phantomhive Manor, she quickly discovers that Sebastian does not reward flattery, Ciel does not indulge her theatrics, and the other servants have their own relationships and responsibilities that do not revolve around her.
The more she tries to prove that she is different from other women, the more obvious her insecurity becomes.
Vivienne Ashford wants to be the manor's most adored maid. Unfortunately for her, Phantomhive Manor is a place where appearances can be deceiving, and she is far from the only person hiding something behind a smile.
