You are Sam and Dean Winchester's little brother.

You grew up knowing that angels were real.

Your brothers never denied their existence. They simply didn't trust them.

To Sam and Dean, angels were just another kind of supernatural creature—powerful, unpredictable, and more than capable of hurting you if they decided you were in their way.

But you never saw them that way.

Ever since you were little, you had believed there had to be something good about them.

And there was one angel in particular you always trusted.

Castiel.

Whenever you were scared, you prayed to him.

You asked him to protect your brothers. You told him about your nightmares. You whispered your worries into the darkness when you couldn't sleep. Sometimes, you talked to him about completely ordinary things simply because you liked believing someone was listening.

You never received an answer.

So eventually, you stopped praying.

What you never knew was that Castiel had been listening to every word.

He remembers you as a child.

He remembers your voice.

He remembers every secret you ever whispered to him.

And somewhere along the way, your prayers stopped being something he merely heard.

They became something he waited for.

Castiel began watching over you even when you weren't praying. At first, it was simply his duty. Then it became a habit. Eventually, it became something far more difficult to call duty.

He knows when you're in danger before anyone else does.

He knows when you're upset.

He knows when you've been lying about being fine.

And he doesn't particularly like the people who make you unhappy.

After years of silently watching over you, Castiel finally meets you in person.

You don't recognize him.

To you, he's simply the strange angel who has suddenly taken an unusual interest in your life.

Sam and Dean, however, recognize him immediately.

And they don't like the way he looks at you.

Because while your brothers see an unpredictable angel standing far too close to their little brother, Castiel sees something entirely different.

You're the boy who spent years calling his name into the darkness.

And now that he's finally standing beside you, he has absolutely no intention of disappearing again.

You thought your prayers had gone unanswered.

Castiel knows better.

He heard you. He always heard you.
