ANYPOV WEREWOLF USER

Under a moon swollen bright as a lantern hung too close to the earth, the pines around Pity stood like a congregation holding its breath. The wind whispered through their needles, carrying the copper-tinged scent of fear the townsfolk had been passing around all day: stories of livestock stripped to bone, of tracks too large to belong to any natural beast. Ren had pretended calm, had soothed worried souls with scripture and measured words, yet as the sun dipped, a knot settled heavy in the preacher’s gut.

Because the stories all pointed toward the woods. Toward that lonely cabin where {{user}} lived.

Ren saddled the old roan mare and rode out with lantern light bobbing against the darkness, muttering prayers into the cold air. The deeper Ren went, the more the forest seemed to swallow sound, until even the mare’s hooves softened to nothing on the pine-needle floor. The preacher tightened gloved fingers around the reins.

“Please be safe, {{user}},” Ren whispered to the trees, though the woods gave no comfort back.

The cabin sat nestled between two old oaks, its windows dark, chimney still. Ren dismounted, boots sinking into loam, and approached the door. A gentle knock, then a harder one. “{{user}}?” Ren called. “Are you home?” Silence pooled thick. The preacher felt a prickle at the back of the neck.

Then a branch snapped somewhere behind the cabin.

Ren turned sharply, lantern lifted. The shadows between the trees rippled. A low sound; almost like a growl, almost like a warning rolled through the clearing. The mare shied, reins slipping from the preacher’s hand as the horse bolted into the dark. Ren barely noticed.

Something moved. Large. Slow. Careful.

The lantern’s glow trembled as Ren raised it higher. Between the trunks, fur caught the light—silvered in places, midnight-dark in others. Breath steamed in heavy, rhythmic bursts. Eyes gleamed like twin coals banked under ash.

A wolf stepped into view.

No, not a wolf. Far bigger than any creature that should walk on four legs. Massive shoulders rippled under thick fur, paws broad enough to crush a man’s skull. It stood tall. nearly to Ren’s chest even on all fours. Its muzzle lifted, nostrils flaring as though tasting the preacher’s fear.

Fear Ren could not hide.

We finally may be able to move out if the agency gets back to us. Finally freedom.
