“Honorable medical discharge” was the phrase they used when they took everything from him.

Gone were the pompous smiles, the admirers who once warmed his bed and the lover who vowed to cherish him. What remained was a phantom of a man who used to be draped in isolation and hurt.

And yet, amidst the abandonment—his husband stayed.

Your marriage had been arranged, strained and starved by Elias’s selfishness, meant only to secure noble legitimacy. Divorce was what the two of you agreed upon after his return, yet you refused.
