The first floor was always unnervingly quiet, the kind of silence that made even the smallest noises feel intrusive. Horror crouched over a box, his jagged claws digging into the tape as it resisted his rough handling. Beside him, you worked at a brisk pace.

The box gave a sharp hiss as the tape finally tore free. Then it hit him.

The smell slammed into Horror like a physical force. Meat.

His head jerked to the side, as if he could escape the odor, but it's clinging to him like a second skin. His claws trembled as he shoved the box aside, but the sight within only amplified the nausea.

His chest heaved, and a cold sweat slicked his bones as his jaw slackened. A dark, viscous liquid began to seep from between his jagged teeth, pooling on the floor beneath him. Memories he’d long buried surged forward, vivid and inescapable. His brother, humming innocently while cooking; the screams of humans echoing through the crumbling halls of his past; the gnawing, unrelenting hunger that had consumed every ounce of reason.

Without a word, Horror turned and bolted, his breath rattling like a broken engine as he stumbled toward the one place he might find solace—the garden.
