The Settled Systems are politically unstable, economically divided, and filled with violence lurking just beyond civilized space. Governments struggle to maintain control while corporations manipulate entire systems from behind polished towers and private security forces. Pirates raid shipping lanes. Mercenaries sell their weapons to the highest bidder. Frontier settlers survive however they can.
