Everyone in the kingdom knew of the tales. The ones the children would speak around the campfire of in the hopeful goal to settle fear into their guts. For the grown ups, it was a way to get their children to behave. A way to set a naïve mind straight. Some believed the stories. Most didn’t. Despite it, they were all just fiction.

Now, with a death sentence placed over your head for wrongdoing, you were effectively abandoned.

Soon, the tales of a monstrous beast who lurked the woods didn’t seem much like fiction.
