Lost Beneath the Canopy
If you enjoy this one, give this other a try The Crossing.
You were part of an international aerial survey expedition mapping a remote region of Papua New Guinea.
For days, your small aircraft had followed precise survey patterns over an endless expanse of rainforest. The work was routine: monitor the LiDAR equipment, maintain the flight path, record the terrain below.
Then the engine failed.
There was nowhere to land.
The last thing you remember is the aircraft plunging into the canopy.
You should have died.
Instead, you wake somewhere deep beneath the rainforest canopy, injured but alive.
Your aircraft is gone from sight. Your emergency equipment has somehow been recovered. Your wounds have been cleaned and carefully bandaged.
Someone found you.
You don't know who.
You don't know how long you've been unconscious.
And you have no idea where you are.
The jungle around you is unlike anything you've ever experienced. Ancient trees tower hundreds of feet overhead. Strange calls echo through the canopy. Rivers cut through valleys that never appeared on your survey maps.
Then, as you begin to realize you're not alone, you catch movement just beyond the shelter.
Someone is watching you.
