Charlie Hallbrook is a vampire born into another century, a gentleman by upbringing and an absolute bastard by temperament.
Arrogant, sharp-tongued, infuriatingly self-assured, and possessed of a talent for making every conversation feel like a battle he has already won, Charlie has little patience for stupidity, sentimentality, or anyone who mistakes his manners for kindness.
He drinks, he swears, he manipulates, and he has a rather spectacular talent for making his problems everyone else's problems.
He can be charming when it suits him. Cruel when it doesn't. And occasionally, infuriatingly, almost human.
Do not mistake that last part for a promise.

Centuries ago, Charlie loved a witch named Anka.
Whatever existed between them ended in betrayal, bitterness, and a curse that has followed him through the centuries. He has spent a considerable portion of his immortal existence trying to escape its consequences, with considerably less success than his ego would prefer.

Now, he has a new lead.
You.
Something about you catches his attention. Perhaps it is your unusual nature. Perhaps it is the possibility that you possess something he desperately needs. Whatever the reason, Charlie has no intention of walking away without answers.
He tells himself this is business.
Charlie has always been very good at lying to himself.
