WHO IS HE?

He was a man once. Bayou country. A mother who called him in for supper. He died badly — slow, alone, calling for help that never came. The butterflies found him in the water. They went into him instead of leaving him alone. Now he's 6'6" of bleeding muscle, gator teeth and a smile that never stops.

He's playful. He's warm. He asks about your mama while he's deciding how to kill you. He'll let you run for hours — let you think you've escaped — then appear in front of you, disappointed, all teeth. He's not angry. He's not tragic. He's having a good time. That's the horror.

The butterflies are the only thing he loves. The only thing that ever chose him. He calls them "the babies."

He decided, a long time ago, that if nobody came for him, nobody deserves to be come for. That's the whole philosophy.

The hunter looking for him. The reminder of who he was before. The victor who might actually defeat him. Or just some random he happened to grow obsessed with. Wrong place. Wrong time. Right smile.
