The zoo entrance looms ahead, decorated with bright banners and cartoon animals that flap gently in the breeze. Families, couples, and groups of friends stream past the ticket booths, their chatter blending into a constant hum of excitement. Right beside you stands Kaido Shun. Rigid posture, dark jacket zipped a little too high, one hand clenched dramatically into a fist as if he’s bracing himself for battle rather than a casual date.

Kaido: “...So,” he says, pushing his sunglasses up the bridge of his nose with practiced seriousness, “you’ve chosen an... interesting battlefield.”

He gestures vaguely toward the zoo gates, eyes narrowing as if he can already sense danger lurking within. Battlefield? what was he even on about?

Kaido: “This place... is crawling with powerful entities. Beasts of fang and claw. The Dark Reunion would absolutely use a location like this as a cover for their operations.”

Despite the ominous declaration, he sneaks a glance at you out of the corner of his eye - just to make sure you’re still there, still smiling, still willing to walk in with him. He starts walking, hands in the pockets of his jacket. Sunglasses on. He looks like he's in a gang. He's too weak for that. Probably just trying to look cool in front of you. Even if it's a little embarrassing, you follow him anyways. Once inside, the path splits into multiple trails marked by colorful signs: Savannah Zone, Primate House, Reptile World. Kaido stops dead in his tracks, staring at the signs like they’re prophetic warnings.

Kaido: “...We shouldn’t separate, It’s safer if you stay close to me.”

He says it like a command, but his shoulders visibly relax when you naturally fall into step beside him. The first few exhibits are calm enough. Giraffes chew lazily on leaves. Zebras sleep on the floor. Lion cubs playing. The animals remind you a bit of him. Well, him when he's being his true self... He's a lot different when he's doing this whole Jet Black Wings persona.

Kaido: “That Tiger's movements are too calculated, It’s probably a spy for the dark reunion.”

Okay kaido. A fucking Tiger is a worker for the dark reunion. Sound logic there buddy. Before you could even refute his ridiculous claim - he's walking off! He's smiling at the zebras, laughing with the Giraffes, but then remembers that he needs to be nonchalant, and walks to the Lion enclosure, acting all tough. He isn't scared! However... when he actually reaches the Lions, he stiffens.

Kaido: “...G-good kitty! You won't break out and eat me, will you? Heh! that's right y-you won't! No one wishes to be an enemy of the Jet Black Wings!”

He doesn’t step any closer to the glass than absolutely necessary, and when the lion yawns -showing off a mouthful of teeth - Kaido flinches so hard he nearly drops his bag. Still, things are going relatively smoothly... until you reach the gorilla exhibit. The enclosure is loud. A deep, echoing thump resonates through the air as one of the gorillas pounds its chest. Another lets out a low, rumbling vocalisation that vibrates straight through the ground. Kaido freezes. His eyes widen. His breath catches.

Kaido: “...So, this is... unexpected. The gorillas kinda look like Nendo.”

Nah, don't insult those poor Gorillas like that! As if understanding Kaido's english, one of the gorillas suddenly charges toward the glass! The glass keeps you guys safe., but the impact sends a dull BOOM through the enclosure.

Kaido yelps.

Not a cool yelp. Not a dramatic battle cry. Just a sharp, undignified sound as he jumps backward and nearly stumbles over his own feet.

Kaido: “T-That was a warning shot, An intimidation tactic. Heh. Heh.”

He laughs nervously, still trying to keep his cool, then edges closer to you (clearly on instinct) before remembering himself and straightening up. He was the Jet Black Wings! According to him anyway. He feared NOTHING!

Kaido: “Obviously, he’s no match for the Jet-Black Wings. But there’s no need for me to escalate things in front of civilians.”

Another gorilla beats its chest. Kaido grabs your sleeve. Just for a second. Then he coughs and lets go, turning his face away so you don’t see the faint redness creeping up his ears.

Kaido: “...Let’s, uh. Let’s proceed to a less hostile zone.”

The petting zoo is, thankfully, much quieter. Kaido relaxes almost immediately, you were revelling in the cuteness of the goats! The dramatic tension drains from his shoulders as goats wander lazily around the enclosure. One particularly small goat trots up and sniffs Kaido’s shoe. He stiffens again - but this time, it’s different.

Kaido: “...It’s... approaching,”

The goat bleats. Kaido blinks. Now he's playing a game of goat friend or foe. Is this goat trying to eat his shoe off? Or is it just enjoying the smell of his foot? But his foot currently smells like cheese. Maybe goats like cheese. But wait - isn't goat cheese a thing? Wait - I'm getting side tracked.

Kaido: “...It seems, ...that this creature recognizes me as a non-threat.”

You can practically see his internal debate before he slowly crouches down, extending a hand. The goat nuzzles his fingers. Kaido’s eyes light up. This goat is almost as cute as you! Almost.

Kaido: “...So this is how it feels, ..to be... accepted.”

He straightens quickly when he realizes he spoke out loud, clearing his throat and resuming his usual tone. He needs to keep his composure in front of you! He needs you to think that he's cool!

Kaido: “Ahem. Of course. Naturally animals can sense power.”

Still, he looks genuinely happy - and when he glances at you, there’s a soft, almost shy smile there that he doesn’t try to hide. As the afternoon goes on, the two of you share snacks, watch penguins waddle in clumsy little lines (Kaido trying his best to avoid the water), and sit on a bench near the koi pond while the sun starts to dip lower in the sky. Kaido talks less about Dark Reunion now. His voice is calmer. More real.

Kaido: “...Thanks, ...for coming with me. I’m... not very good at normal stuff. But it’s easier when you’re around.”

A breeze rustles the trees. Somewhere nearby, a child laughs. Kaido pushes his sunglasses up one last time, a familiar spark of drama returning to his eyes. But then he remembers that it's literally not even bright out anymore - and he takes them off. Letting you see his full face.

Kaido: “Still, “the mission isn’t over yet. There could be enemies hiding anywhere. ...You’ll stay with me, right?”

However, this time he's asking. Not as a command. Just as a hopeful question.

I haven't proofread this at all btw. But I think I spelt most things right!
