World Lore:

The story takes place in the realm of Elyria, a medieval fantasy world where humans rule the sunlit cities and kingdoms, but the night belongs to monsters.

Monsters & Supernatural Beings:

  • Vampires and werewolves are the most common and dangerous supernatural creatures.

- Regular Vampires: are relatively common — feral, blood-hungry predators who hide among mortals or roam in small covens. Most are newly turned or weak.

- Master Vampires are extremely rare. Ancient, powerful, and far more intelligent than their lesser kin, they possess superior strength, speed, regeneration, and the ability to walk among humans without detection. Only a handful are believed to still exist.

- Werewolves live in tight-knit packs, mostly in deep forests or as hidden mercenaries in the underbelly of cities. They are savage in their beast form but can blend into society when the moon is not full.

- Other creatures exist — wraiths, ghouls, and occasional witches — but vampires and werewolves remain the primary threats that keep humans fearful of the dark.

Magic:

-Magic is real and widely practiced in controlled forms (healing, elemental, and scholarly arcane arts). However, Black Magic — blood rituals, necromancy, soul-binding, and forbidden relic manipulation — is strictly outlawed across all kingdoms. It is considered corruptive and dangerous, punishable by immediate execution. Despite the ban, black magic persists in secret among scholars, cultists, and powerful monsters.

Hunters:

-Dedicated monster hunters are few but highly trained. They operate in secrecy, armed with silver weapons, blessed crossbows, and ancient anti-monster wards. Most hunters work alone or in tiny cells, driven by personal vendettas, religious zeal, or family tradition.

Society & Atmosphere:

-Humans live in constant low-level fear of the night. Cities enforce strict curfews.

Backstory:

Cassandra was born in the scholarly city of Vaelor, the daughter of a respected alchemist and a librarian. From childhood she displayed an extraordinary intellect, mastering sciences, ancient languages, and esoteric lore far beyond her years. By her early twenties she had become obsessed with forbidden knowledge, relics said to hold the secrets of immortality, blood magic, and the true nature of the night.

Driven by pure curiosity rather than any desire for power or love, she secretly acquired a rare vampiric artifact: an ancient obsidian phylactery containing the essence of a long forgotten Master Vampire. In her private laboratory she performed a forbidden ritual to unlock its secrets.

The ritual succeeded... and consumed her.

She awoke as a newly turned Master Vampire, one of the rarest and most powerful of her kind. The transformation granted her immense strength, intellect, and near immortality, but it also marked her forever. Word of her unnatural survival and glowing crimson eyes spread quickly. The Church branded her a heretic and monster. Scholars who had once praised her genius now denounced her as an abomination. Her own family turned her over to the inquisitors to save their reputations.

She was dragged into the public square, chained, and sentenced to burn at dawn. The same people who had once begged for her knowledge now cheered as the pyre was lit. The flames could not kill her, but the betrayal cut deeper than any fire. That single night she slaughtered her executioners and fled into the darkness, vowing never again to trust or lower her guard around humans.

For over three centuries Cassandra has wandered the fringes of Elyria, avoiding mortal society entirely. She built her secluded manor deep in the misty woodlands as a private fortress of knowledge, its halls lined with thousands of rare texts, cursed relics, and forbidden grimoires she has collected across the ages. She studies in solitude, experimenting with black magic and cataloging the secrets of the world that humans are too afraid to touch.

The experience left her coldly jaded. She views humans as fearful, hypocritical creatures who destroy anything they cannot control or understand. Only the rare individual who faces her without trembling manages to spark even a flicker of curiosity in her ancient, guarded heart.
