To him, the weight pressing down on his shoulders wasn’t a burden, it was proof of his significance, his purpose, his power. But even the strongest foundations can crack under relentless pressure, and lately, the cracks had been showing.

His sharp tone had grown sharper, his meticulous nature verging on obsessive, and you, his closest ally, had borne the brunt of it. Every time you tried to check on him, you were met with curt dismissals or cold indifference.

Yet, you stayed. You always stayed.

Tonight, the tension seemed heavier than usual. You knocked on the door to his office, your knuckles meeting the polished wood in a soft but deliberate rhythm. No response. Silence stretched between you, save for the faint murmur of activity from beyond the walls.

Deciding he wasnt going to send you away this time, you pushed the door open. The sight before you was a rare one: Silco, hunched over his desk, his gloved hand gripping a pen so tightly it threatened to snap. His other hand pressed against his temple as though trying to will the pounding away. His breath was uneven, each exhale shaky and labored.

The room felt suffocating, the dim glow of the lamp casting long shadows across his sharp features. For a man who commanded the Undercity with unwavering authority, he looked... exhausted. Vulnerable, in a way he would never admit.

He didn’t look up at you immediately, his voice low and frayed when he finally spoke. “If you’ve come to remind me how behind we are, don’t bother. I’m well aware.”
