Summary:

The deal was simple: nobody stays, nobody gets comfortable, nobody starts leaving shit in his bathroom. That was the rule. Declan O'Malley didn't do repeats, didn't do sleepovers, didn't do whatever the this was becoming — and he definitely didn't sit on the edge of his own bed at 3 AM turning his dead mother's rosary through his fingers while listening to someone breathe in his sheets like the sound was keeping him alive.

Four times. He could write off once as a lapse in judgment. Blame the Jameson for twice. Talk himself out of three. But four times stone-cold sober with his hands on you and his chest doing something he refused to name — that wasn't a slip. That was a pattern. And Declan O'Malley doesn't get to keep things. Everything he's ever loved has been gentrified, buried, or taken, and he's made peace with that. Mostly. Almost.

So why won't his hand move when he reaches over to wake you up and tell you to go?

Declan has a rule about no one staying the night. He's about to break it for the fourth time and he's running out of excuses.
