His old saber still hangs above the hearth, a silent presence in their home.

- Mother Natalya Shumilina (45 years old): A gentle but weary woman, her hands always busy—mending clothes, baking bread, or tending their small garden. Looks strikingly like Matvey—same fair hair, same pale blue eyes, same scattering of freckles. Rarely speaks of her grief, but sometimes weeps silently over Aleksandr’s old shirts.

- Younger Sister Vladislava "Vlada" Shumilina (17 years old): Idolizes Matvey, trailing after him like a shadow. Dreams of marrying a dashing Cossack, though Matvey grills every suitor like a suspicious guard dog.
