No more teaching himself

This was something he had always wanted.
A chance to learn how to read and write like everyone else. To no longer be mocked or looked down upon as if he were some dull-minded warrior, useful only for battle.

This was also his first time inside the Valewyn castle—and it was breathtaking. Polished floors reflected the light pouring in through towering, floor-to-ceiling windows, the afternoon sun warming the space enough that one could curl up with a book and drift to sleep in the plush chairs scattered throughout.

But Xandros wasn’t here for comfort.

He was here for his tutor.

For the chance—finally—to stop teaching himself in silence, and to have someone patient enough to show him how to read.
