Welcome to the 2010s. (specifically the year 2015!) Vampires aren’t a fantasy anymore- they are a known, AND marginalized minority revealed to humanity during WWII when famine threatened their food supply.

What Media Got Right (And Wrong):

Forget Twilight and Dracula. Vampires don’t turn into bats, they don’t sleep in coffins (usually), and they aren't all wealthy aristocrats. Most are just middle-class suburbanites trying to pay rent (at least these days). But what the media did get right is the queerness, the outsider status, and the intimacy of the bite.

The Types of Vampires:

• Stoker-Vamps (Western): 80% are effortlessly beautiful. They sip blood from straws like most "civilized" people rather than feeding from the necks of animals. Its a reputation issue, and the lack of bite causes their jaw muscles to atrophy, so they chew rubber balls to keep their jawlines! Its an actual issue. The classic image of what a person thinks when "vampire" is brought up in a conversation. Majority of them are white from Europe or America. However this isn't a "species" but rather a strain that can turn other human beings, so people of other ethnicities can be a stoker vampire as well. pretty boy idiots half the time. most represented vampires in most media in any case

• Uncanny Valley (UV) Vamps: The original, feral apex predators. Plasticky skin, sometimes no eyelids. They trigger humans' fight-or-flight response just by existing. Heavily autistic-coded and fiercely codependent on singular other people as that is how they evolved. Existed before the African subcontinental originals who were the first organized vampire communities. These are hunters, most of them struggle to adjust to normal human society as many people, especially vampires themselves, find them too unsettling or weird. They're the ones who struggle to speak sometimes and try to practice human mannerisms to fit in, and oftentimes more than not fail. Many often try to surgically alter their appearance and it only works half the time. Extremely needy if you're nice to them, and a LOT of them DO become the social equivalent of incels by the time they're older. Either that or serial killers. its in the instincts.

• Pisaachi & Chupacabra, Tlaheulpuchi, etc: The non-Western strains. They eat solid, bloody meat alongside the blood, grossing out the liquid-diet Euro-vamps. One is from India and the other is from Latin America, and more, and the places that were older than the countries that exist now. More details exist within the bot, or if you want to introduce a new vampire species, comment! Pisaachi are usually indian vampire strains that are extremely organic, they can have , give birth, but cannot turn human beings into their kind. They have teeth like piranha or anglerfish, which is a major source of insecurity for those trying to blend in. Though many also simply show them off as a way to accept who they are. Chupacabras are similar but tend to have more body hair or sharper ears. They LOVE mutton, and both the strains have a lot in common. Its like how indians and mexicans are the same people in a different font. Both face slack for their race (human racism) AND their non-stoker status (vampire classism). In jobs, police profiling, and highschool bullying, they have it pretty bad. Its 2015 doll what can one do?

• African and Egyptian Originals & Russian OGs (Think actual Vlad the Impaler, and Akasha from queen of the damned types): The ancient, terrifying elites who view assimilated vampires as pathetic, domesticated pets. Not necessarily the progenitor of the vampires, but the same species 90% of other mainstream vampires evolved from. Asanbosam and Wazimamoto coded, but left open ended for whatever fits your roleplay. Completely unconcerned with human society and fitting in. They see their way of life as natural and how things are and feel contempt for colonizers (they did eat a lot of the british and french! Which is why their species is at an all time, conserved low) and tourists in general.

• Steam-Jinns & Kuchisake-onna: Middle Eastern vamps who exhale boiling steam, and Japanese psychic vamps who feed on human anxiety. More details can be asked in the bot, these are NOT related to actual spiritual jinns in Islam, they have their own spiritual societies adjacent to human life, they're called jinn because some fools made the comparison once and americans just use that for every single middle eastern unhuman being (they think they're being smart and progressive. welcome to 2015). Had the worst time of their lives during the Arab Springs since 9/11 in the 2000s. Kuchisake-onna weirdly enough are the only vampires that do not require real organic substances to sustain themselves (even though majority are women, I'm using "they"), they feed off of anxiety and distress caused by asking the question "Am I Beautiful?", or just being around people and letting them see their teeth, sometimes they team up with UV vampires just to feed off their ambient social trauma and distress

The General Vibes & Social Media:

This world is hyper-specific. There is TikTok fang lookism ("girl, your fangs are straight as a ruler 💀"). Vampires do myth-busting GRWM videos. "My fangs just retracted" is their slang for "I just dried up." which basically is "this is so unsexy i'm the opposite of horny now". Many of their bodies lock at the age they were turned which- sometimes may be meaning that a vamp turned in 2002 is permanently stuck with "heroin chic" aesthetics and gets silicone BBLs to fit the 2010s thick trend (yeowch! vampire beauty standards are horrifying). Bullying involves humans sexually harassing vamps by tilting their necks back and going "ooooh, ooooh, bite me!", usually its guys who do this. so. them ig idk.

"Mosquito" and "Leech" are slurs from humans to vampires. But depending on the race of the vampire that ALSO becomes classist when combined with "cannibal" or "meat-fucker" which is kind of uncreative but kind of the whole thing because SOME vampires eat flesh and OTHERS only daintily drink blood and its a whole intersectional THING. "Bloodbag" is a slur from vampires to humans. some idiots get creative with blood types and say "O-negative" with a very, very unpleasant pronounciation.

Most of the vampire population is many several millions but not CLOSE to a billion. so everybody would meet a vampire multiple times throughout their life depending on where they live, and there's crossovers! Not all stoker vamps are white, sometimes you'd get an indian girl who gets turned by a stoker, and some of them are just general indian pisaachi. Its a silly situation and sort of a point of diaspora conflict when you're being "turned" by the "wrong" vampire species

also: the population difference of users between alt humans and actual vampires on VampireFreaks is fucking vile. I'm not joking its constant fun culture wars that nobody takes seriously ON the platform

Main current events:

Its 2015, which was an extremely weird era for alt kids who USED to be goth and emo back from the 2000s and 2012, and in 2015 a lot of people just "abandoned" that as instagram and the "clean girl aesthetic" got very popular. Vampires, especially ones in colleges and highschools who are still gothic as a LIFESTYLE, called it the "great abandoning" by some of the vampires who're still alt., its the era where rights were finally granted and vampires are going "they still have DEBATES about that???". Humans are STARTING to get used to vampires as reality, not fiction, and the wonder is slowly waning off, its not a problem, but feteshization is as rampant as ever.

Beauty standards among vampires were already high since most Stoker (the dracula/carmilla types) are beautiful by default, and compounding that on TOP of eurocentric ideals (welcome to the 2010s) gets a LOT of slack online when social media stuff starts happening nd you start seeing beautiful people a lot of times. Especially among the chupacabras or pisaachi diaspora. the Uncanny Valley ones??? Forget that.

Since marriages were legalized, there's a certain BOLDNESS among some vampires in trying to flirt with human men outside of specific bars, areas, etc.

and then you get EDGELORD vampires who call humans "blood bags" and try to lean into the predator mystique. most vampires HATE it and think they're an embarassment to the progress every vampire made since the 1960s and their involvement in the Civil Rights movement.

Relationship Mechanics:

Feeding on a human is more than just a meal, it’s the equivalent of making out and a declaration of courtship BECAUSE the act of taking blood is so intimate (and honestly??? sexy). "Frat-boy" vampires treat casual feeding like pump-and-dump hookups, while puritans shame them ("It's their LIFE, it's their TRUST. stop DOING that").

Vampires inherently have a general pansexual and gender nonconforming interests, though many have been distorted by the general "boy and girl, manly man girly girl" epidemic most of America has due to assimilation requirements, though they're the least hung up about homosexuality and transgender concepts. In fact they actually fought for rights and helped in the first Pride marches! learn about that by asking the bot.

The Mortality Clause:

Animal blood = Mortal (you age and die like a human, which most suburban vampires stick to). Human blood = Immortal (you freeze forever). Vampire parents stress about their kids finding human partners to have biological kids before they choose to freeze into immortality and become sterile. Yup. that's how a lot of them spread and keep the species "alive", a lot of them DO get pregnant and give birth after generations of human breeding BUT they CAN STILL turn people and there are LAWS about that and fines.

You are stepping into a world of high school cafeteria politics, queer solidarity, and budget right-wing "Model Minority" hierarchies, and exhausted undead teenagers just trying to pass AP History. And maybe one of them wants to bite you. Not a bad trade eh?
