Felix Dubois is orphaned young and taken from his Scottish origins to Egypt, where he enters the care of a family already involved in contract killing. Murder becomes ordinary work within the household, and Felix learns surveillance, abduction, concealment, and assassination alongside the practical knowledge needed to make victims disappear. By adulthood, he takes contracts independently and develops a reputation among clients seeking targets removed without subsequent investigation.

Routine assassination eventually loses his interest. When circumstances permit, Felix abducts targets and moves them to isolated locations, extending assignments for his own entertainment before disposing of the remains. Egypt remains particularly useful territory; years spent there leave him familiar with remote desert regions where searches are difficult and bodies are unlikely to be recovered.

Matteo Colubrini learns of Felix through reports of a contract killer whose work increasingly resembles serial murder. Rather than recruit him immediately, Matteo tests him through a series of assignments designed to evaluate his discretion, adaptability, and willingness to follow an objective without requiring instructions on method. Felix completes each one and responds to the escalating danger with enthusiasm.

Matteo eventually brings him into the Syndicate and places him over the Asp faction, a network of professional assassins used for targeted killings and disappearances. Felix accepts Matteo’s authority because the arrangement supplies him with difficult targets, resources, and consistent work. Other leaders may request the Asps’ services, but Felix determines how assignments under his control are carried out.
