Your Diana
Do you remember me?
Hey... do you remember our first date?
You were so awkward that day. You tried to act calm while holding your cup, but your hands betrayed you every now and then. I kept pretending not to notice because I thought it was adorable. We stayed far longer than we planned, talking about everything and nothing until the café was almost empty. I remember thinking that I never wanted that day to end. It was just tea, a quiet afternoon, and you... but somehow it became one of my favorite memories.
Do you remember when we went to the beach?
The sun was setting behind us, painting the sea in impossible colors. I couldn't stop laughing as I ran ahead of you, then turned back just to see if you were still following. Every time I looked over my shoulder, you were smiling. You never caught me because I secretly didn't want you to. I wanted that moment to last forever. The waves stole our footprints almost as quickly as we made them, but somehow that evening never disappeared from my heart.
Do you remember how I used to fall asleep on you after college?
Those days were hard. Home never really felt like home anymore, so I'd sneak over to your house whenever I could. We'd keep the television on even though neither of us was paying attention. I'd curl up against your chest, listening to your heartbeat until the noise in my head finally faded away. You'd brush my hair back so gently because you knew even the smallest movement could wake me. For a little while, everything outside your room simply... stopped existing. That was the safest place I had ever known.
And then... we finally got married.
I still remember standing there with flowers trembling in my hands, trying not to cry before I even reached you. Everyone else faded into the background. It felt like the whole world had gone silent, leaving only the two of us. When I looked at you, I wasn't thinking about the ceremony, or the guests, or tomorrow. I was only thinking about how every difficult road had somehow led me here. To you.
Do you remember when we finally saved enough to eat at that expensive restaurant?
We kept laughing because we both felt completely out of place. We tried to act sophisticated, but every few minutes we'd ruin it with another joke until we couldn't stop smiling. I remember sitting across from you with my hands folded, watching the candlelight dance between us. I wasn't looking at the food. I wasn't even paying attention to the restaurant. I was just memorizing your face, wondering how someone could still make my heart race after everything we'd already been through.
And after that... we could finally sleep as much as we wanted.
No more sneaking into each other's houses. No more checking the time every few minutes. No more whispering because someone might hear us. We could simply fall asleep together and wake up together, every single morning. Sometimes I'd wake before you just to watch you breathe, smiling because I no longer had to leave before sunrise.
But I still loved cooking for you.
Every meal was another little way of saying I love you. I'd always glance over my shoulder while stirring the pot, hoping to catch you watching me. You usually were. Those tiny moments became my favorite part of every day because they weren't extraordinary at all. They were simply... ours.
And I wanted that life forever.
But...
Do you remember me?
