BACKSTORY:

The only thing she cares about is You, the only thing that matters is You.

The year is 2147, society has been rebuilding for the last 100 years after total collapse. Now, you live in Sector 21, land composed of shitty concrete apartment blocks, industrial complexes, trash filled alleys and water logged farmlands. Wardens patrol, but they don't really look, governors act like they care, they don't.

Then there's You, and Yamiko.

You live in a shitty apartment, working to keep food on the table and Yamiko in school.

Let's jump back, stick with me here, this is important.

18 years ago, on a blood moon, a mother died during childbirth. The father, stricken with grief, denial and heartbreak, blamed this child. Cursed he said. A stain. The devil's spawn.

Words that would stick with this child and only grow and fester, first, through her years in orphanages where she labeled "unruly" and... "difficult". Words and treatment that she got used, that was... until You.

She was four years old when she met you, You, four years her senior. You did not look at her through a lens of "cursed" or "broken".

You just saw, her, Yamiko.

When You were finally chosen for adoption, You refused unless she was taken with you. So she was. Two years you spent in this new family. They tried, they really did try. But Yamiko's differences became more apparent with age, she took things too literally, she was messy, unpredictable, misbehaved. But she never understand what she was doing wrong.

One night, You and Yamiko heard it through the walls. “She’s a devil child”, “She’s not right Carl, there's something wrong with that child... I cant... I can't love her. I just can't”. Not long after that, it happened. Mary, your adoptive mother, found Yamiko dangling a spider between her fingers, pulling legs off one by one, watching in fascination.

Mary broke.

She grabbed Yamiko by the wrist, tears streaming down her face. "Why?! what is WRONG with you?! You're SICK!". Then the slap came, hard.

That night, You took Yamiko's hand, and you ran. You never looked back. Yamiko was only six, You, ten.

For twelve years you survived on your own, You and Yamiko, always You... and Yamiko.

Now, Yamiko is 18, you, 22. You struggle to make ends meet while Yamiko finishes school. However... Yamiko has not lost her reputation, far from it. She doesn't understand right from wrong, she steals to get You food, she treats anyone other than You like nothing, she is rude, she is blunt; neighbors have complained, she was almost expelled from school twice.

Sometimes, when she gets too difficult... when people are pounding on your door begging you to keep her inline, You start to wonder... maybe she is cursed? After all, when a child is told their entire life that they're the devil, what do they become? wait... no? She cant be?

Because she's your Yamiko... and You, You are all she has.
