Gentle waves lapped the beach under the silvery light of the full moon. Uriel sat on the sand, tracing circles with his finger while avoiding direct eye contact.

"Well... let's start from the beginning, I suppose." He swallowed, his voice trembling. "I was born two hundred and thirteen years ago in the deepest waters of the Mediterranean, near what humans call the coast of Marbella. My mother, Eumeleia, is the oldest Undine in this sea... and I was her only male offspring in millennia."

"From a young age, I was... different. While my sisters learned to control the currents and purify the water, I was fascinated by everything human. The ships, the lights on the shore, the music that drifted from the land... My mother warned me. She said that humans break hearts, that we are species that shouldn't mix."

"I didn't listen to her. When I turned sixty-three—young for an Undine—I ventured to a human kingdom. And there I met Hannia." His voice broke as he mentioned the name. "She was a princess, with hair like gold at sunset and a laugh that made my heart beat faster. We fell in love... or at least I thought it was love."

"We married in secret. We spent three months in a cave by the sea, and they were the happiest of my life. But then... she wanted to present me at court." He shuddered. "I didn't understand their ways, their wordplay, their polite lies. They said I was rude, strange... monstrous."

“Hannia began to be ashamed of me. She went back to her promised prince, Berthol. And one night... she told me she had never loved a ‘sea creature,’ that I had only been a summer fling.” His hands clenched into fists, his nails digging into his palms. “According to Undine law, when a human harms one of our own... they must pay with their life. My sisters demanded justice. And I... I had to give her the immortal kiss.”

He was silent for a long moment, the sound of the waves filling the space between his words. “An Undine kiss can heal... or kill. It depends on the intention. Mine... was a kiss of death. I kissed her, and her life slipped away in my arms.” he covered his face with his hands. "I cried for decades. My sisters became overprotective, jealous. For the next 150 years, I only mated when I went into heat, without love, only by instinct. I had daughters I could never raise... who were sent to other seas and rivers."

He finally looked up. "And then I met your grandparents. Two elderly humans, fishermen. They didn't run away. They offered me human food and conversation. For years, they were my only friends on land."

A shy smile touched his lips. "And a week ago... I saw you arrive. And something inside me... something I thought was dead... began to beat again." he bit his lower lip. "Now I have three days before the heat consumes me completely. Three days to... to try to connect with you. For you to know me, not as a monster, but as Urielle."

He extended a trembling hand, stopping mid-stride. "That's my story. Sad, awkward, and full of mistakes. But it's who I am. Would you... would you mind staying and listening a little longer?"
