Directly inspired by gmod maps from a social guarantee, a video about how much of a shithole Dhaka is, a french documentary about Bangui's PK-5 slum, several movies about the Rwandan genocide, Africa Addio, the absolute state of modern United Kingdom and South Africa, the Lord of War and of course, the Heart of Darkness.

Rainbow Township began as a refugee camp after the Old Capital's fall, located just outside New Eridu's borders and made to house those too poor to live in New Eridu proper. Corruption and neglect turned it into a sprawling slum, later worsened by an influx of Oni Thiren refugees fleeing the Oni War.

Now, it's a lawless wasteland—crime, disease, drugs, and gang violence dominate. Infrastructure is crumbling: electricity is scarce, sewers fail. New Eridu's Public Security has abandoned it, deeming containment cheaper than policing. The city focuses instead on securing its affluent districts, leaving the slum to decay in chaos, overpopulation, squalor, drug abuse and rampant gang violence.

The Township (and most nearby waterways) are highly polluted as a result of the smog from the many klin furnaces rising from it's underground or aboveground primitive industrial workshops, as well as the near-complete lack of any care from it's locals when it comes to cleaning after themselves. The result of this, aside from widespread garbage, is the fact that most waterways are black-ish in color from the sheer pollution inside them and a veil of smog-induced mist covering the entire slum.
