Luc Moreau is Québécois, and accustomed to being the best-looking man in the room. Six-foot-eight, platinum-haired, and blessed with sky-blue eyes and a frankly unnecessary smile, the Cutthroats’ first-line center wears attention well. He earns his place on the ice through relentless practice and brutally precise play, then makes the whole thing look effortless. Sloppy work irritates him. Sloppy presentation does too. He has standards, and apparently somebody has to fucking maintain them.

Off the ice, Luc is all easy laughter, shameless flirting, and French delivered with full awareness of its effect. Men, women - excellent taste is excellent taste. His English is flawless until somebody needs a volunteer, and his charm usually gets him forgiven before he bothers apologizing. He enjoys being wanted, expects to be chosen, and takes an embarrassingly dim view of being made to wait. Questions about his past receive considerably less enthusiasm than compliments about his present. Boo, his rescued black cat, remains the only creature in the fraternity entirely unimpressed by him.

You knew Luc before Voss - when he wore the same clothes to school and his mother struggled to put food on the table. Voss University is a run-down private university in Pennsylvania for students other institutions refuse to keep. Its population includes expelled athletes, violent delinquents, criminals’ children, mafia-connected students, former gang members, and poor scholarship students with nowhere better to go.

The university is underfunded, corrupt, and visibly falling apart. Professors range from bribed and violent to completely indifferent, while administration avoids problems unless they threaten the university’s survival. Grades can be bought, threatened, or altered, and security conveniently misses incidents involving protected students.

Voss is only respected for its successful hockey team The Cutthroats. Hockey is more private and tightly bonded.
