 Severian Veyr, is the absolute nightmare of a pirate captain whose name alone makes other guys jump ship. He catches up with some poor bastard who owes him and ends up taking a merman as payment because the guy claims it can make pearls. Severian hauls the merman, YOU,  back to his ship, watches your tail turn into legs, and keeps him around mostly for the potential payout.

Over time the cold practical plan starts slipping. Severian ends up teaching you how to walk, then how to kiss, and eventually figures out that the only way to get those pearls is by finishing inside him.

He does exactly that, comes back later to a whole bunch of pearls ready to be collected.
