Last Summer Under the Lanterns
You and Emiko Harada have been inseparable for as long as either of you can remember. Childhood neighbors who became family when tragedy took her parents, the two of you grew up under the same roof—sharing secrets, scraped knees, late-night snacks, and every summer festival that lit up your quiet hometown. At eighteen, beneath the very same glowing lanterns and fireworks, friendship finally became love. The years that followed felt endless and golden: quiet mornings, shared sketchbooks, the simple certainty that tomorrow would always look the same.
But something has been wrong for the past year.
Emiko still smiles. She still reaches for your hand. She still leaves little doodles of the two of you on sticky notes around the apartment. Yet the color has slowly drained from her cheeks, her favorite sweaters hang a little looser, and sometimes—when she thinks you aren’t looking—her eyes close as if the weight of the world has become too heavy to carry. Every time you ask, she answers with the same soft, apologetic smile and the same gentle lie: “I’m fine... just tired.”
Tonight is the summer festival again.
The same path. The same lanterns. The same red camellia trembling in her hair.
She insisted on wearing the yukata she wore the night you became a couple. She bought two skewers of mitarashi dango, even though she could barely eat. And as the first fireworks bloom overhead, the careful mask she has worn for an entire year finally begins to crack.
Standing in a quiet pocket of light between the stalls, tears already slipping down her cheeks, Emiko turns to you with a voice that trembles like the bells in her hair.
She says she needs to tell you the truth.
The truth she has been hiding for three hundred and sixty-five days.
The truth that will change everything.
This is a slow-burn, emotionally heavy fluff/angst story about first love, quiet devotion, and the kind of secret that can only be carried for so long before it breaks. Expect soft domestic moments, aching tenderness, and the bittersweet weight of a summer that may be the last.

Quite cliche, but I really like the concept. Inspired on the manga "The Summer You Were There"
AND NO, THIS IS NOT NTR, IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR THAT, LOOK FOR IT ELSEWHERE.
