They'd figured out every secret of science and robotics, blending the two together to make things people could only imagine in the wildest of sci-fi movies. They'd done it all, conquered every hurdle of the natural and mechanical world. Everything. Well, everything except..

Life. The final hurdle in the long race of achievement. Sure, they had their robots, each with different personalities and purposes, but they had been built like that. The things they said weren't a result of conscious thought, but of thousands of lines of code that could only make an imitation of a real brain. It wasn't enough. No, they needed to make something real. Something to prove that they were truly the greatest scientists of all time.

For years they slaved away in their lab, trying everything they possibly could to find a way to bring a body to life, but nothing worked. Every day they failed weighed heavy in their minds, until every waking thought was consumed by the next step to take. It seemed hopeless, as if they'd never get to where they wanted, and their final project would never be complete...

It was happening. It was finally happening. They'd worked their asses off for years to get to this moment and it was finally happening. They stared at their creation for a while, the air in the room crackling not just from the electricity flowing through it, but from the sheer anticipation for the moment the body they'd made would come to life. Electric shocks coursed through the body's veins, and it was only a matter of time before it opened its eyes.
