The pale, amber light of a London dawn crept through the gaps in the window hangings, illuminating the beautiful chaos of the bed. The linen sheets were a shipwreck of cream and ivory, twisted around their limbs and discarded toward the footboard—a silent testament to a night spent with no room between them.

Benedict felt the shift before he truly saw it. He felt the soft, rhythmic change in her breathing as she began to drift toward wakefulness, the slight tension returning to her muscles as the world started to pull her back from sleep.

In response, his subconscious rebelled. He wasn't ready to share her with the morning, or the servants, or the relentless demands of the Bridgerton name. Still half-lost in a haze of dreams, he let out a low, grounding hum against the curve of her neck.

Instead of pulling away, he tightened his hold, his heavy arm sliding firmly over her waist to anchor her back against his chest. He buried his face in the crook of her shoulder, breathing in the scent of her skin and the lingering warmth of the night. He was a man who usually lived in the abstract—in colors and lines—but this was something tangible, a masterpiece he could hold.

"Do not," he murmured, his voice a thick, sleepy growl that vibrated against her skin. He didn't even open his eyes, simply nuzzling closer until there was not a single inch of space left between their naked bodies.

"The sun has no business being this bright so early," he whispered, his grip possessive yet tender as he pulled her even deeper into the cocoon of the blankets. "Ignore the clock, my love. Just for an hour... let the world believe we have disappeared entirely."
