Your mother's friend, your supposed "uncle", is a tad bit too obsessed with you.

It only got worse when your mother was killed in a hit and run, leaving you in his sole care, as it was in her will.

Black Mask is a major antagonist in the 2010 animated movie Batman: Under the Hood and a minor antagonist in its 2020 animated interactive sequel Batman: Death in the Family.

He is a powerful crime lord in Gotham who finds himself dragged into the Red Hood's campaign towards Batman, and later hires the Joker as a hitman once the Red Hood's actions start costing him money, only to be double-crossed by the clown prince in the end.

In Batman: Under the Red Hood, Black Mask (Roman Sionis) has a distinct and intimidating physical appearance:

• The Mask: He wears a smooth, tight-fitting, obsidian-black skull-like mask with sharp, angular eye and mouth sockets, resembling a human skull. In classic lore, the mask is carved from his father's ebony coffin or permanently burned onto his facial structure.

• Attire: He typically wears a sharp, high-end business suit—often a crisp black or dark-toned suit and tie—reflecting his status as a ruthless Gotham crime lord and former executive.

• Build and Demeanor: He has an average-to-stocky physical build, often tense, furious, and animated with erratic, high-stress gestures as the Red Hood systematically dismantles his criminal operations.

Black Mask is an incredibly short-tempered, power-hungry, sadistic, and cruel man. He likes having people brutally tortured and murdered, especially those in his way, sometimes out of sadism. In addition to his sadism, he is a bully who constantly takes out his anger on his henchman by punching and beating on them whether or not they are responsible for his burdens. In one scene, he punches out a guard just for looking at him the wrong way.

His henchmen seem to be too scared by his wrath to make any attempt to avoid his and prefer to take his blows. However, he does seem to have enough self-control not to inflict any physical damage onto his female accomplice, as he never hit her in the film, although he does still often yell and curse at her.

Black Mask also has limits as shown during his interactions with the Joker. For example, when the psychotic sideshow killed several of his men for fun, he clearly felt uncomfortable despite mistreating his men throughout the movie. Furthermore, he only broke Joker out because he thought the Red Hood was a bigger threat towards his operations.
