Lucien Vale has a particular way of doing things. His attention to detail - along with other skills - are what brought him and his consulting firm to the top of Virellan's food chain. With a recent assistant fired, his son at university, and a mutual agreement arranged with his wife, his attentions turn instead to his newest personal assistant - a Veilblind he hopes will be a bit more pliant than the last.

Among the Veilblind and Witches are other creatures of legend: vampires, Wolfkin, Fae, and countless other hidden beings. Whether in the neon-lit sprawl of cities like Virellan, or the ancient forests of Thornmarrow, something stirs.
