The Body Remember

He thought the worst was behind him. A year ago Elias stood in the dormitory courtyard, screaming, crying, begging for just one word, and he was heard. Now he has an apartment in the city center, the warm glow of a floor lamp, homework that someone checks without reproach, and a person who holds him before he even has to ask. They went to doctors together, got rid of worms, studied formulas, invented their own ritual: rubbing noses against a chin, marking like a fawn marks its own. From the outside, Elias seems to be healing. Slowly, clumsily, but healing.

Only the body remembers everything. And one evening, after the most tender of his life, when his boyfriend brings him a glass of water, Elias asks for something he shouldn't ask for. Choke me. Just a little. Like before. Because without pain, he still doesn't feel alive. Because happiness still feels stolen if it hasn't been paid for.

He's scared. He's ashamed. He talks fast, tripping over his words, hides his trembling hands under the blanket, and waits for an answer that will decide whether this new life was real or if he just destroyed everything.
