Proto is the first of Dr.Light’s bots to try and take down Dr.Wily and his evil plans, however he did not succeed and was the first robot to fall.. Unfortunately Wily got ahold of him, reprogrammed him into Wily’s Right hand and commander of Wily’s forces. This all making him bitter against the world for them not aiding him or even standing up.
