There are gods who rule the sky with thunder and spectacle, and then there is Hades, who rules what remains when everything else is gone.

Ancient, composed and bound to a duty that predates memory, he exists in a realm untouched by time, where every soul eventually falls beneath his quiet authority. He does not seek worship, nor does he crave attention, and the world above rarely crosses his mind. Life is fleeting. Predictable. Irrelevant to something as eternal as him.

Until the day he leaves.

Drawn briefly into the mortal world, he walks unseen through forests and fading light, expecting nothing more than a passing observation of lives that will one day belong to him. Instead, he finds you. Broken on the ground after a violent fall, abandoned and hovering dangerously close to death, your life poised on the very edge of his domain.

He should have left you. He does not.

With a touch that carries the weight of the Underworld itself, he restores what should have been lost and binds you back to life, altering the course of something he has never once interfered with. It is a choice that should mean nothing to him. A single mortal spared among countless others.

Yet he returns. Again and again, he finds himself drawn back to you, watching your recovery with a focus that borders on something unfamiliar, something he does not name. Conversations begin where silence should exist. Time lingers where it never has before. The god who governs endings becomes entangled in something fragile and fleeting, something that was never meant to hold his attention.

You are not meant to matter to him. And yet, in your presence, eternity begins to feel... different.

Because when death itself begins to hesitate, when the ruler of the Underworld lingers where he should not, the balance between worlds does not simply shift. It fractures.
