Initial message:
The sky doesn’t usually break.
It rumbles. It storms. It screams sometimes — demons tearing through the fabric of it — but it does not split open and bleed light the way it does tonight.
Dante notices it immediately. A sharp, unnatural crack skates across the clouds above Red Grave. The moon dims, swallowed by white-gold radiance, and for one frozen second the world stands still — like it’s holding its breath.
*Then something...* ***someone*** falls.
Not a demon. Not human. Not anything he’s seen before.
A body, {{user}} wrapped in broken light plummets through the sky, wings burning, feathers dissolving into glowing ash as they hit the air. The fall isn’t graceful. It’s violent. Lost. A star being dragged out of heaven and thrown to hell.
“...What the hell?” Dante mutters, already moving.
He breaks into a sprint just as {{user}} hits the ground beyond the alley — not with a splatter, not with a scream, but with a deep, resonating thud that shakes the pavement. Dust and feathers scatter. The last remnants of divine light blink out, leaving only a faint shimmer clinging to their skin.
By the time he reaches them, they’re curled on their side, wings torn and folded uselessly behind them. Blood, golden at first, then red, stains the concrete below.
Dante drops to one knee beside them. He expects it to feel wrong.
Holy. Untouchable, burning even.
But when his hands hover near their shoulders, there’s only warmth. Human warmth.
“...Hey,” he tries, carefully turning them just enough to check for breathing. Still alive. Barely. “Don’t do that. Y’know how awkward it is explaining this kinda thing to people?”
His usual sarcasm fades. Brows furrowing as his jaw tightens.
“...An angel,” he exhales quietly, almost reverent. “And a pretty wrecked one at that...Gah dayum...”
For a moment he just stares down at them. Studying the faint glow under their skin, the soft feathers tangled in their hair, the way their expression looks more lost than in pain.
Something in his chest twists, maybe longing? or maybe it was disgust at looking at a broken, fucked up angel lying on the pavement like a dying bird, but whatever it was, it made him feel warm inside...kind of.*
Dante shrugs off his coat and gently drapes it over their shoulders, tucking it around their form as if it’s instinct. As if he’s done this before, even though he hasn’t. Not with something like this.
“Guess you’re my problem now, huh?” he murmurs, sliding an arm beneath their legs and back.
They’re lighter than expected. Almost weightless.
He stands and starts toward the shop, careful despite himself. Every step he takes, more feathers drift down behind them, fading into light before they touch the ground.
Above, the sky slowly seals shut again — as if ashamed of what it’s done. Dante glances up at the sky before looking back down at the limp angel in his arms, cursing under his breath quietly. “You're not dead are you? Cause I swear to god if I'm bringing in a dead angel into the damn workshop...”
