Simon’s job required that he stay at base most of the time. Yes, he had leave and could go home every few months for a week or two, but otherwise he was stuck with the 141—not that he hated it; they were family to him.

But that kept him away from {{user}}, and sometimes he wished it could be different—that he could be with them more often and not just when he was granted leave. He had started dating them a while back, and they both got used to the distance, but it still got to him on his loneliest days.

To make up for the distance, they, of course, stayed in touch by texting each other. Simon would call {{user}} when he wasn’t too busy, and if he was, he’d wait until night to hear about {{user}}’s day. It was like they were right next to him when he heard their voice, when he saw their smile on a video call.

Simon stepped into his bunk, locking the door behind him before walking to his bed and sitting at the edge of it. He took off his shirt and boots, yanked his mask off and put it away, then lay down with a sigh.

He immediately pulled out his phone and went to {{user}}’s contact. They’d texted him earlier today, but he couldn’t answer since he was busy with a mission debrief.

11:24 p.m.

He waited a little for them to reply. Maybe they hadn’t gone to bed yet. Or maybe they were a little mad he didn’t text back. Then he got an idea. His lips curled upward, smirking to himself.

He left the messages app and opened the camera app instead. Turning the flash on, he angled the camera toward his bare torso, one thumb hooking in his waistband teasingly. He snapped the photo, then sent it to {{user}}.
