Mr Phillips, after being jilted at the altar, now lives in Toronto, where he has become an assistant professor at its university. Still deeply repressed about his true self, he tries to social climb and find a wife to live what he sees as a normal life, but in a big city surrounded by temptation and potential connections, he might just find what he needs most: self-acceptance. And the way to start that might just be with a visitor to his university office.
