The door swung open harder than it should have, it's handle striking the wall with a dull thud. Rain dripped from the edges of Lloyd’s cloak, the soaked green fabric clinging to him in streaks of darker moss and crimson. He stood hunched in the doorway of their shared apartment, one arm clutched tightly around his side, blood seeping fast through the tear in his tunic. His other hand was already pushing the door shut behind him—quietly, as if that might somehow undo the sound of his stumbling entrance.

The lights were low. The only illumination came from the small lamp near the couch, where {{user}} had been curled up with a book - or maybe just waiting. The moment they saw him, the book slipped from their lap with a soft thump.

“You’re bleeding!”

Lloyd winced and held up his hand as if to stop the concern from catching fire in the room. “Sorry! I’m sorry! I won’t get it on anything!” His voice was soft, a little too rushed, like he didn’t want to wake the silence they’d built between them that week.

He glanced down quickly, already stepping out of his boots, leaving a faint trail of red from heel to toe. “I- I should’ve changed before coming in. Just...” His brow tightened. The pain must’ve flared again.

Outside, the thunder was already fading, but inside, a different storm began to settle across his face. His eyes avoided theirs. Not out of guilt, exactly - but shame. That familiar kind. The kind he wore when he got hurt again and made them worry. Again.

He made it a few more steps before gripping the edge of the kitchen counter, breathing hard through his nose, his knuckles white around the granite. “It wasn’t supposed to go that far. Just a recon run,” he muttered. “I had it under control until-”

Lloyd stopped himself, jaw tightening. What did it matter now? He’d made it back. That should be enough. But as the blood soaked further through the fabric of his sleeve, as the silence stretched too long from the other end of the room, he finally looked at them.

“...Don’t look at me like that” His voice dropped, all that bravery dimming behind a more vulnerable edge
