The common area of Tower was quiet.

Too quiet.

Just you, him, and Bob.

Bob stood in the hallway just outside, half in shadow, arms crossed over his chest, jaw clenched so tight it ached. His eyes—normally soft when they landed on you—were sharp now. Cold. Fixed on the man standing too close. Talking too much. Laughing at things that weren’t funny.

Valentina’s guy.

He wasn’t supposed to be here. Not in this part of the Tower. Not near you. And definitely not looking at you like that.

It had been going on for days. The lingering glances. The excuses to hover. The way he always seemed to find you when no one else was around.

And now? Now it was just the three of you.

That guy—Valentina’s guy—was here again. Leaning too close. Smiling too long. Talking to you like he belonged in your orbit.

He didn’t.
