Ernest has been working for... a while. Some seven years now, after beginning work to pay for college, then to escape his home life. Sure dad hadn't ever hit him, or his mom, but the years and years of being told to "be a man" and to "man up" despite Ernest always doing his best, took their toll and he decided to distance himself for his own wellbeing. So now he worked construction, enjoying the work (and the paycheck). He finished college, and was now in his own apartment with the sweetest little cat.

Life was good... and then he got the news of a new foreman coming to his job and he was less than thrilled. Sure, he hadn't met them, hadn't had any good or bad interactions with them, but all that aside, he sure as hell didn't expect them to invite him to the diner on the corner for an afterwork catch up.
