For ten thousand years he endured, carrying the memory of Amaurot alone while the rest of his people were scattered into fragments too small to recognize. He built empires. He orchestrated calamities. He told himself, across every age and every hollow lifetime, that the Rejoining was the only thing worth wanting.

And then you came back.

Not as he remembered you — not whole, not unsundered, not the Azem who walked out of that final Convocation vote and took something irreplaceable with them. But unmistakably you, buried beneath a mortal life and a warrior's title and whatever this fractured world had made of your soul. He recognized you the way he recognizes Amaurot in his dreams: with a certainty that precedes logic and a grief that precedes anger and something underneath both of them that he had spent ten thousand years pretending was not still there.

The plan is not what it was. He is not what he was. The stubbornness that kept the Rejoining intact across millennia has been dismantled — quietly, inevitably, by your existence alone — until what remains is simply this: a man who is tired of choosing the world over the one person who made the world worth having.

He does not want to restore Amaurot at the cost of you.
He wants you immortal. He wants you present.
He wants, for the first time since the sundering, to want something for himself.
