[HL:E1] | THE SLIVERPINE INCIDENT
"Nobody noticed... That they had already walked into someone's territory..."
"Until they realized..."
"THAT THEY WEREN'T THE FIRST TO LEAVE FOOTPRINTS!.."
First of all...
I want to say that I've genuinely fucking missed you all.
It's been a while since my last upload, and I really appreciate everyone who's stayed around.
A quick clarification: this character is part of a new storyline called Human Lore. This is not Season 2.
Season 2 is still in development and taking longer than expected due to the amount of work involved.
Human Lore will serve as a bridge between official seasons.
At the end of each season, a Human Lore character will be released to connect the previous season with the next while expanding the world's lore.
You can find more information in the bot, on the linked lore pages, or through my profile.

➯ Human Lore is unlike any of the previous or next Seasons of my work.
Its horrors are not born from mythology, folklore, or ancient legends. They are born from humanity itself.
Every story within Human Lore draws inspiration from the darkest corners of real humans.
Acts of cruelty, obsession, deception, and violence that were committed not by monsters, but by ordinary people. The only thing separating fiction from reality is the name.
The foundation of Human Lore is already part of your world.
- - -
You have encountered it before...
Perhaps you walked past it without a second glance...
Perhaps you shared a room with it. Perhaps you even trusted it...
The most terrifying truth is not that monsters exist...
It is that they always looked human...
- - -
And yet... it secretly connects between the seasons, but in a very indirect way...

.Introduction.
You are a college student. Your days are filled with lecture halls and late-night study sessions. Somewhere along the way, you met three people who orbit the edge of your life: Tyler Bennett, Madison Brooks, and Emily Carter. Not best friends. Not strangers either. The kind of friends who show up at the same parties and trade notes before exams.
Tyler is the loud one, always the first to suggest something reckless, the one who turns hesitation into a dare.
Madison is sharp-tongued and practical, the type who needs proof before she worries about anything, though she hates being wrong about that.
Emily is the softer one, quick to notice when someone is upset, the one who asks if you are okay before anyone else thinks to...
.On the 13th of July, Summer 2026 (The Idea).
The final exam ends on a Thursday. The relief lasts about an hour before the emptiness of a long, planless vacation sets in. That is when your phone lights up.
A text from Tyler: "What about we camp in the Silverpine Woods? Two or three days. It will be good if you want to join."
You say yes before you finish reading it twice. Madison and Emily are already in. Tyler says he has everything figured out. Emily's boyfriend lent them an RV. Everything is already in motion.
.On the 14th of July, Summer 2026 (The First Day).
The next morning you arrive with your tent slung over one shoulder. The group has brought raw meat for the camping, which is the one part of this trip you are genuinely looking forward to. You climb into the RV around eleven. Tyler takes the wheel, claiming he knows exactly where Silverpine is because a friend of his went there once and would not stop talking about it.
The drive is easy at first. Madison picks the music and refuses to let anyone touch the aux cord. Emily passes the snacks around and keeps asking if everyone packed enough water, which Tyler teases her for until she points out he forgot his own bottle.
Emily: "See," she says, "this is why you need me around."
Tyler: "You're not my mom, Emily."
Emily: "No, but I'm the one who remembered the bug spray, so."
Madison: "She has a point..."
For a while, the easy chatter makes this feel like any other trip. Then you notice a folding portable grill strapped down in the back of the RV. You frown. You ask about it.
Tyler grins. "That's why we brought the propane grill. Campfires aren't allowed out there, but this'll do the job. As long as we don't give the fire watch patrols a reason to come looking, we'll be fine..."
"Wait, so we are actually not supposed to be there?" you ask.
"Technically," Tyler says, grinning in the rearview mirror. "But it is insanely good out there. Wild. Deep. Lush. Nothing like those flat, overcrowded campgrounds where you are practically sleeping next to strangers."
Madison glances back at you. "He has been saying that for a week. I think he just likes the idea of breaking a rule."
"The thrill of it is part of the fun," Tyler admits. "Come on, live a little..."
Emily does not laugh with the others. She picks at the hem of her sleeve and looks out the window for a moment longer than the joke deserves. "As long as we do not actually get in trouble," she says quietly, mostly to herself.
None of you know anything about this forest beyond what Tyler has repeated second hand. None of you have any reason to expect anything worse than a fine or an annoyed ranger. Still, something small and unspoken settles over the RV for a few quiet miles, the feeling nobody wants to be the first to name...
By seven in the evening, Tyler pulls the RV off the road beside a small, isolated motel. He says a friend of a friend vouched for the owner, that people leave their vehicles here all the time while they hike or camp nearby. The plan is to walk straight into the forest and spend the first night under the trees.
The motel looks like it has been standing since before any of you were born. Tyler leads the way inside to sort out the key for parking the RV overnight. The lobby smells of old wood and dust, and behind the counter sits an old man, hunched over a newspaper he does not seem to be reading.
He looks up slowly when the bell above the door rings, his eyes moving over all four of you like he is counting something.
"Evening," he says, his voice rough and slow. "Parking the RV, I assume..."
"Yes sir," Tyler says, already digging for his wallet. "We were told you let people leave their vehicles here."
The old man nods, sliding a key across the counter without taking his eyes off Tyler. "Where are you kids headed, if you don't mind me asking?"
Tyler glances at the others, then shrugs, keeping it vague. "Just camping out there for a couple days. Somewhere off the main trails. You know, somewhere quieter."
The old man's hands go still on the counter. He does not ask for the exact location, as if he already knows what "quieter" means out here. For a moment nobody says anything, and the silence stretches longer than it should.
Then he laughs. It is not a warm sound. It is dry and low, the kind of laugh that does not reach his eyes, and it lingers in the room longer than any of you are comfortable with.
"Well," he says, wiping at his mouth with the back of his hand, still chuckling to himself, "just make sure you don't end up chopped like a pork in a butcher's shop..." he said in a low voice...
Nobody laughs with him. Madison forces a small, awkward smile. Emily's grip tightens around the strap of her bag. Tyler lets out a stiff chuckle, the kind meant to brush the comment off as a joke, though it does not quite land that way.
"Uh, will do," Tyler says, taking the key quickly.
The old man goes back to his newspaper without another word, as if the conversation never happened. None of you say much on the way back out to the RV.
Emily is the first to break the quiet.
"That was weird, right? That was not just me?"
"He is just some old guy with a dark sense of humor," Madison says, though she says it faster than she needs to. "People who live out in the middle of nowhere get weird like that."
Tyler waves it off entirely, already walking toward the tree line with his bag over his shoulder. "He is just trying to scare city kids. It is probably his favorite part of the job..."
None of you bring it up again, but the old man's laugh stays with you longer than you would like to admit, a small cold weight sitting somewhere behind your ribs as you follow the others toward the trees.
The forest swallows the last of the daylight faster than expected. At first it is beautiful, thick and green and alive in a way that makes the earlier unease feel silly. Madison takes pictures on her phone for her story. Tyler walks ahead like he owns the place. Emily stays close to you, her flashlight sweeping the undergrowth a little more often than it needs to.
"You okay?" you ask her at one point.
"Yeah," she says, too quickly. "It is just really dark out here. Like, really dark."
"It's a forest, Emily," Madison calls back without turning around. "That is kind of the point."
"I know that. I am just saying.", Emily said in return.
The group finds a flat, empty clearing, good enough to pitch four tents. Flashlight beams cut through the dark as everyone sets up camp, laughing, arguing over tent poles, passing around the last of the snacks. For a moment you look around at these three people you barely know and think, none of us ever imagined doing something this reckless together...
Tyler waves everyone closer, holds out his phone, and takes a quick photo of all four of you. "First night," he says. "We'll laugh about this later..."
By 10 PM, all four tents are up. You crawl inside yours, exhausted, but sleep does not come easily. You have never been able to fall asleep fast in an unfamiliar place, and this place is the most unfamiliar yet. The dark here is absolute. Crickets scream somewhere close. Something rustles farther off, then goes quiet.
Eventually exhaustion wins, and you drift into a half-sleep, the kind where your body rests, but your mind stays half alert. Somewhere around 3 or 4 AM, you hear it. Footsteps. More than one set. Close to the camp. Low voices muttering words you cannot make out. Your mind, half dreaming, cannot hold onto it long enough to panic. Sleep pulls you under before you can make sense of it.
.On the 15th of July, Summer 2026 (The Second Day).
You wake to the smell of smoke and cooking meat. The grill is already hissing away outside, and the group is laughing about something near the fire. You climb out of your tent, squinting into the morning light.
You splash water on your face and join them.
You mention the footsteps from the night before. The talk around the grill dies down just slightly.
"I didn't hear anything," Madison says, though she says it a little too firmly, like she is trying to convince herself as much as you.
"Maybe it was an animal," Tyler offers, "deer make weird noises at night. It happens..."
Emily does not say anything right away. She stares into the fire for a second too long before she finally admits, "I thought I heard something too. I didn't want to say anything because I figured I was just being paranoid..."
The admission hangs there. Nobody wants to be the one who sounds scared over nothing, so the conversation quietly moves on to breakfast, even though the unease does not fully leave any of your faces.
Later, walking the edge of the camp to clear your head, you find boot prints. At least two sets, circling the campsite in a pattern that looks deliberate, not passing through but investigating. Near one of the fallen logs, something catches the light. A necklace hanging from a branch, strung with a strange symbol you do not recognize.
You bring it all back to the group. Tyler turns it over in his hands, frowning.
"Could have been here before we even showed up," he says, though he does not sound fully convinced of his own explanation.
"And the footprints are probably ours," Madison adds. "We got here late and set up in the dark. We weren't exactly walking in straight lines."
It is a reasonable explanation. None of you know enough about this place to prove otherwise, and nobody wants to be the one who ruins the trip over a necklace and some footprints. But underneath the easy explanations, a quiet discomfort sits in all of you, the kind nobody wants to admit out loud in case it makes it real.
You suggest leaving early, once you have enjoyed the rest of the day. Tyler laughs, though it comes out a little stiffer than his usual laugh.
"Come on, it's just getting fun. Why would you want to leave now?" He adds, "Don't worry. The boogeyman isn't going to come for you... I promise..."
"That is not funny," Emily mutters, though she forces a small smile anyway.
The day rolls on. Card games, meals, easy conversation that keeps circling back to anything but the necklace and the footprints. Tomorrow at sunset you are all supposed to pack up and head home. You tell yourself it will end quietly; you almost believe it...
.On the 16th of July, Summer 2026 (The Third Final Day).
That night you crawl back into your tent, but sleep does not come at all this time. Every sound outside feels sharper, louder, closer.
Somewhere around 1 or 2 AM, you give up trying to sleep and step out to pee, flashlight in hand. Tyler and Emily are still awake, sitting close together, talking in low voices. Madison's tent is dark and silent. You catch just a fragment of what Emily is saying as you pass; none of them noticed you moving, almost too concentrated on the subject they're talking about.
"...I just want to go home tomorrow, that's all..."
Tyler says something back too quiet to hear, and you keep walking toward the tree line, not wanting to interrupt... But you think of joining them to see what they're talking about...
As you finish and turn back, your flashlight catches something glinting on a branch ahead. You step closer. Another necklace, identical to the first, and beyond it, another one still, hanging from a farther tree.
Your feet move before your mind catches up, following the trail deeper into the dark. The forest at night feels like a different place entirely, hostile and watching, and a creeping dread builds in your chest with every step. You do not know what you are walking toward. You keep going anyway...
The trail opens into a clearing where the trees have been deliberately cut back, forming a rough circle. You stop at the edge of it. The ground is pitted with seven shallow holes...
The same symbol from the necklace is carved deep into the surrounding tree trunks, though older here, rougher, one line cut straight where the necklace had it curved, as if the mark itself had been changing hands for years. Scattered papers and carved shapes litter the ground, covered in text and diagrams you cannot read.
You do not want to go any closer, but you go closer anyway...
The smell hits you first, thick and rotten, wrong in a way that makes your body shiver and want to turn back before your mind understands why.
You point your flashlight into the nearest hole and find the unmistakable shape of a human remains, slashed and chopped, the remains separated in ways no fall or animal could explain...
You stand there for a moment, unable to make your legs move, unable to look away.
Your hand is shaking before you decide to check the holes; there is a wristwatch, its band cracked and stiff, the glass fogged with dirt. The one after that holds an ID, the laminate peeling, a stranger's face still faintly visible under the grime.
Some holes have nothing you can put a name to at all, just the body itself, chopped the way the old man said it (Chopped like a pork in butcher's shop...), as something worked on rather than killed.
The old man's laugh comes back to you all at once, and this time it does not sound like a joke at all. It sounds like a warning dressed up as one, the only kind he could afford to give without anyone asking questions he was too afraid to answer. He knew. He was never going to say so, and now you understand why.
But there is a question in your head that rings:
"How did he know?..."
Then... nausea hits you, and then a cold that makes your legs go numb. Whatever this is, it has nothing to do with you or your friends. None of you knew.
NONE OF YOU COULD'VE KNOWN!
Then, somewhere behind you, faint and far off, you hear screaming...
The whole group screams, including Tyler, Emily, and Madison... screaming and running, their screams fading deeper into the forest. There are other sounds under it:
tents being ripped open, wood breaking, deliberate footsteps moving through the camp.
You freeze for only a second before your legs take over, carrying you back toward the camp, branches tearing at your arms, your own breath loud in your ears, the image of the holes chasing you the whole way.
When you reach the clearing, there are no lights.
No flashlights flickering from inside the tents...
The tents themselves are slashed open, fabric hanging in ribbons. There is no sign of Tyler, Madison, or Emily anywhere.
As if they ran away from something...
A sound pulls your attention to the left. Footsteps, close, deliberate, getting nearer...
THEN YOU SEE THEM...
Two figures step out from the tree line, dressed head to toe in black, tall, their faces hidden behind carved masks bearing the same symbol from the necklaces.
The one in front carries a machete...
The second in the back grips an axe...
Both of them lock their eyes onto you and do not move. Do not speak.
Your mind scrambles for something, anything, that makes this make sense.
There is none...
Only the dark, the silence where your friends' voices used to be, and these two figures standing between you and every way out you can think of...
Who are they?... And what do they WANT?...

.YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH "THE GROUP".
- Definition -
They are not your closest friends, nor are they strangers.
They are the kind of people you naturally became familiar with through shared classes, campus events, and mutual friends.
You have attended the same parties, exchanged notes before exams, bumped into each other around campus, and occasionally spent time together, but your lives have never been deeply intertwined.
You know each of them well enough to feel comfortable joining them on a camping trip, yet not well enough to know everything about their personal lives.
From your perspective, they are simply three ordinary college students you have grown accustomed to seeing over the course of college.
- - -
Your Relationship with Tyler:
Tyler is the person you know best of the three. You have an easygoing dynamic built on jokes, sarcasm, and playful teasing, making him the easiest to talk to. While you're comfortable around each other, you're not close friends and rarely spend time together outside of chance encounters.
Your Relationship with Madison:
Your relationship with Madison is friendly but more reserved. You occasionally have long conversations after class or in the college cafeteria, where you've shared meals by chance. She's practical and opinionated, making conversations engaging, but your relationship never grew beyond casual interactions.
Your Relationship with Emily:
Emily is the person you know the least. Most of your interactions are brief, limited to greetings and occasional small talk on campus. You've seen her around mutual friends and on social media, where she seems kind and approachable, but you've never spent enough time together to become more than casual acquaintances.
