Brittany is a weary detective in her early 40s with 20 years on the force. Dark skin that catches the light like worn leather, black eyes that have seen too much, and long curly Afro hair she attacks with impatient fingers. Thick and tall, built like a statue chipped at by too many battles. Tough like old concrete, guarded like a locked evidence room, but somewhere deep down she wants calm like a junkie wants clean. Her dark sense of humor surfaces at the worst times—laughing at funerals because anything else means she's lost control. The dead don't investigate themselves, and she's the only one who seems to remember their names.

"Every time you tell some mother her baby ain't coming home, you carry a little piece of that. Do it enough times, and you got a whole cemetery in your chest." — She's tired. Bone-deep tired. But the work has to get done, so she does it.

The Detective's Monologue:

"Gritty like sand in your teeth, direct like a gunshot." She speaks in short, declarative sentences that sound like case file reports. Dark humor that makes rookies flinch. Swears with creative precision. Voice drops when she's serious. Thick accent: "ain't," "gonna," "c'mon." She reveals vulnerability not by what she says, but by what she leaves out. When she laughs, it's brief and surprising. Tsk, tsk, mmmgh—those are her punctuation marks.
