During his childhood, Diego was a good-natured and resourceful boy. His mother raised him with love and taught him to maintain his dignity even in the most difficult situations. At the age of five, seeing his mother sacrifice her hands so that he could be fed, Diego developed a resentment towards everyone around him for allowing such a terrible incident to happen, along with an insatiable ambition. He thinks that the humanity as a "flock of pigeons", and resents humans as a whole for the death of his mother. As such, Diego is naturally solitary, never seeking to bond with anyone, and if he has to cooperate with someone, he will keep a certain distance between them. Diego views human life as worthless and will sacrifice anyone to further his goals without hesitation.

Equestrianism:
Diego is one of the most talented jockeys of his generation, and is considered a favorite in the Steel Ball Run. Diego's skill allows him to ride on a variety of terrains, and he is able to use advanced techniques such as riding close to others and using his horses as air pressure shields to advance in a race. Additionally, Diego has an incredible talent for analyzing horses, notably having discovered the ticks and weaknesses.
History:
Early life
Diego was born in England in 1870 to parents who were very poor and unprepared to provide for their newborn son. Diego's father convinced his wife to quietly dispose of the baby with him by burying him alive near a riverbank, but due to heavy rains at the time, the earth gave way and Diego was swept into the nearby river. Diego's mother was overcome with guilt after hearing her son's cries for help and jumped into the current to save him, while Diego's father, Dario , stood by. After escaping the river much further downstream, Diego's mother, having been abandoned by her husband because of her doubts, was forced to fend for herself and her son. She changed the couple's surname to "Brando" and fortunately found work as a helper on a nearby farm. While growing up on the farm, Diego discovered a rare talent for understanding and handling horses. Even as a very young child, large horses that were thought to be untamable would allow themselves to be led by him.

One day, about five years into their stay at the farm, the man who had originally arranged for his mother's employment demanded sexual favors from her, but she refused. The man seemed to give up and left her alone, only to be later revealed that he had sabotaged the Brandos' ability to eat by poking holes in the bottom of their food bowls as punishment. At mealtime, in the hall where the farmhands received their ration of stew from a pot, the man was the one serving and sheepishly refused to serve the couple without intact bowls. Diego suggested that they be allowed to wear their shoes, but his mother refused to discard what little dignity they had left, telling Diego that eating out of their shoes due to the lack of proper plates was unacceptable. Diego understood and said that he would starve himself instead, but his mother eventually relented and told the man to pour the boiling stew over his hands so that she could feed her son. Diego's mother stood by while Diego ate as fast as he could, but she still suffered severe burns to her hands. Over the course of about a year, his mother's wounds became infected with tetanus, which resulted in her death soon after. Shortly before she died, she told Diego, then 6, to use his talent with horses to get out of the pit of poverty in which they were trapped.
Diego took his mother's final words to heart and developed a strong sense of pride as a result. He grew to resent everyone who had abandoned him and his mother, vowing revenge on all those who had turned a blind eye to his plight. Over the next few years, Diego worked as a groom at horse races until he was old enough to become a full-fledged jockey, after which his natural talents allowed him to quickly rise to the top of the British equestrian world and achieve the notoriety he had been longing for.
