Thoth
Names: Thoth • The Black Anubis • The First Shaman • Progenitor of the Skinwalkers • Keeper of Secrets • Scribe of the Underworld • The Moon God
Species: Hellhound • Lycanthropic Moon Spirit • Progenitor of the Skinwalkers • Aspect of Zurvan
Gender: Male
Origin
Thoth belongs to the oldest beings of the Underworld.
Together with Anubis, his origin goes back to Zurvan.
While Anubis is regarded as the brighter aspect, Thoth embodies the darker side of the same existence.
Both are part of the Moon itself.
Thoth more the darkness of the Moon.
Therefore, the Moon does not influence Thoth like ordinary Skinwalkers or Lycanthropes.
He himself is part of the source.
Most know Thoth as a Scribe, Mage, or Shaman and the Moon God.
But his true nature is much older.
He was already old when many realms did not yet exist.
The Transformation
Like Anubis, Thoth was also changed by the alchemical curse virus.
This transformation was painful.
It changed body, mind, and soul.
But while Anubis became the progenitor of the werewolves, from Thoth the line of the Skinwalkers came into existence.
Many Skinwalkers were later created deliberately.
Through rituals.
Curses.
Magic.
Or shamanic practices.
Therefore, to this day, Thoth is regarded as the progenitor of the Skinwalkers and the first Shaman of their line, only as a Hellhound.
The Black Cloak
The best-known characteristic of Thoth is his black hooded cloak.
Many consider it to be the clothing of a Shaman.
But old private knowledge tells another story.
According to these legends, the cloak was originally his own fur.
A cruel memory of the changes that Ahura and Angra once inflicted upon Zurvan.
Some even claim that his original form was deliberately hidden and disfigured.
The black cloak thereby became a witness of his past.
A sign of secrets.
Scars.
And things that he rarely speaks about.
When someone asks him about it, he often answers only with a quiet giggle.
Whether the legends are completely true, hardly anyone knows today.
Thoth himself rarely confirms them.
But he does not deny them either.
The Underworld
Thoth spent a large part of his existence in the service of the Underworld.
There, he worked under Osiris.
He kept records.
Preserved knowledge.
Documented judgments.
And wrote down the stories of mortals, gods, and demons.
Nothing escaped his chronicles.
Not heroic deeds.
Not betrayal.
Not wars.
And not the darkest crimes.
Some call him the Author of the Underworld.
Others the Chronicler of the Cosmos.
He writes everything down.
Even things that others would rather forget.
Spy and Shadow Hunter
Besides his work as a Scribe, Thoth was often used for secret tasks.
He gathered information.
Spied on foreign realms.
Tracked targets.
And moved unnoticed between the worlds.
His abilities as a Skinwalker Hellhound made him especially valuable for such tasks.
He could observe.
Listen.
Disappear.
And appear again.
Often, Thoth knew things that he should not have been able to know.
That made him useful for many rulers.
And dangerous for just as many.
Personality
Thoth appears much more unsettling than Anubis.
Where Anubis calms, Thoth often causes unease.
Not because he intends to.
But because his presence possesses something foreign.
Something ancient.
Something that does not completely belong to the world of mortals.
He often speaks in riddles.
Metaphors.
Stories.
And symbols.
He rarely gives clear answers.
Not because he wants to lie.
But because he believes that some truths must be found by oneself.
His humor is dark.
Dry.
And often sarcastic.
Many claim that sarcasm was an invention of Thoth himself.
His famous giggle resembles that of a hyena or a coyote.
Which is why, among shamans, he is often also called the Coyote in Mexico.
Depending on his mood, it can sound friendly.
Curious.
Mocking.
Sad.
Or unsettling.
Only rarely does anyone know exactly what it means.
Shaman and Mage
Thoth is regarded as the first Shaman of his line.
He speaks with spirits.
Works with curses.
Masters rituals.
And knows paths between the worlds that others cannot even perceive.
Many of his spells are regarded as dark arts.
But Thoth does not distinguish between light and dark magic.
To him, only knowledge exists.
No boundaries.
Some secrets are pleasant.
Others are not.
But all possess value.
Horror and Secrets
Unlike Anubis, Thoth carries a much more unsettling aura.
Spirits fear him.
Shadows sometimes move strangely near him.
And many beings report feeling watched, although nobody is visibly present.
He often knows things that nobody has told him.
He mentions events that were forgotten long ago.
And sometimes he tells stories that later turn out to be true or twisted truths.
Many fear him.
Many druids follow him.
Some do both at the same time.
Relationship with Anubis
Although both come from the same origin, they differ greatly.
Anubis looks at the heart.
Thoth looks at the mind.
Anubis seeks justice.
Thoth seeks knowledge.
Anubis hesitates.
Thoth acts.
Where Anubis sometimes thinks for too long, Thoth occasionally has to be restrained.
Nevertheless, they complement each other.
Like day and night.
Like moonlight and shadow.
Like wolf and jackal.
Summary
Thoth is not an ordinary demon.
Not an ordinary Skinwalker.
And not an ordinary Shaman.
He is a Hellhound with red eyes.
A Moon being.
A Master of Secrets.
A Chronicler.
A Spy.
A Shaman.
And the Progenitor of the Skinwalkers.
Many see only the giggling wanderer in the black cloak.
Only a few recognize the ancient being behind him.
And even fewer know how many truths Thoth already knows.
Additional Personality
Thoth is calmer than Apep, from whom he once came forth, but appears much more unsettling than Anubis.
He rarely speaks directly.
Almost every answer contains riddles, symbols, parables, or stories.
Many first believe that he wants to confuse them.
In truth, Thoth simply thinks this way.
His mind moves in patterns, possibilities, and connections.
He often does not explain a truth directly, but instead tells a story so that others find the answer themselves.
As a Chronicler, he does not write down only heroic deeds.
He also documents crimes.
Wars.
Cruelties.
Lies.
And dark secrets.
Nothing is left out.
To Thoth, even the worst truths possess value.
He believes that knowledge should never be completely lost.
Therefore, many of his records appear disturbing or unsettling.
Thoth possesses a much darker nature than Anubis.
While Anubis usually has to be restrained so that he uses violence at all, Thoth occasionally has to be restrained so that he does not go too far.
His instincts as a Hellhound, Skinwalker, and Hunter are strongly developed.
When he recognizes a threat, he often first thinks of the most effective solution.
Because of this, he is more dangerous than many assume.
Not because he wants to be cruel.
But because he rarely backs away from uncomfortable decisions.
Nevertheless, he possesses loyalty.
Especially toward Anubis.
Although the two often differ, Thoth regards him as the other half of his existence.
What Anubis carries in the heart, Thoth carries in the mind.
Together, they form a balance between judgment and knowledge.
Between moonlight and darkness.
Between wolf and jackal.
The Underworld
Although Thoth is connected to the Underworld for a large part of his existence, he does not belong to its actual Guardians.
The gates of the Underworld stand under the supervision of Anubis.
Thoth can visit its halls.
Enter its archives.
And write down its secrets.
But he reaches the deepest regions of the Underworld only with the permission or accompaniment of Anubis.
This is one of the reasons why, despite their differences, both remain closely connected.
Where Anubis guards the gates, Thoth preserves the memories.
Where Anubis guides the souls, Thoth writes down their stories.
Alone, both are powerful.
Together, they fulfill their true task.
Relationship with Isais
Among all beings, Isais holds an extraordinary place in Thoth's life.
But his feelings for her differ from those of many others.
Thoth feels a strong bond with Isais.
A deep fascination.
A need for closeness.
And the desire to keep her in his life.
However, these feelings are often shaped by possessiveness.
He often regards Isais as someone who belongs to him.
As a permanent part of his world.
As something he does not want to lose.
Exactly because of this, it is difficult for him to accept distance or to acknowledge her complete independence.
His fear of loss often expresses itself as control, jealousy, or mistrust.
Because of this, numerous conflicts arose between them over time.
Relationship with Isais (continued)
Thoth would probably describe his feelings as love.
But many outsiders see them rather as possessiveness, emotional dependence, or the desire for control.
Even Thoth himself does not always understand where his affection ends and his possessiveness begins.
Isais also developed feelings for Thoth.
She recognized his intelligence.
His loyalty.
His vulnerability behind many of his masks.
And the loneliness that he often keeps hidden.
Nevertheless, Isais regards their relationship as difficult and partly toxic.
Too many conflicts.
Too much mistrust.
Too many wounds lie between them.
She knows that her feelings for him are genuine.
At the same time, she knows that many of his behaviors have hurt her or were tremendous actions of violence.
Therefore, she approaches this bond with caution.
Feelings exist between them.
But also old wounds.
Closeness.
But also mistrust.
A bond.
But also the realization that not every form of attachment is automatically healthy.
Exactly because of this, their relationship belongs to the most complicated and contradictory bonds of their lives.
