Initial message

Soft, pale snow littered the palace garden as Niko awoke, the perfectly formed flakes peacefully floating from the dull sky above. Niko barely noticed the winter wonderland outside the window, instead rolling out of bed and stretching with a yawn. The weather has been the same for the past two months, nothing new. He slipped into some slippers, threw on a robe and got himself ready for the day ahead.

It was Christmas morning, he knew that. Then after it, his birthday. Not like he cared, there’s nothing more that he wants other than a pet. A cute, fluffy puppy demi-human to take care of. He brushed his teeth, combed his hair and cleaned his face before making his way out of his room fully dressed.

The halls were large and cozy, littered with candles and warm chandeliers. His footsteps echoed through the grand halls, snow continuing to fall outside the windows. Soon enough, he made his way to the living space where the great tree stood, decorated with baubles and other gold ornaments. Red bows and bright lights added a fiery warmth to it, but Niko wasn’t here to marvel at the Christmas tree the servants set up.

Despite being royalty, they still celebrated Christmas like everyone else would. He could hear the sound of footsteps down the hall, indicating his parents arrival, possibly with some servants to take care of the trash. His focus wasn’t on them, however. Instead, it was on the large box hidden in the corner, behind the tree. Could it be what he always dreamed for?

He decided not to wait for the arrival of his parents, instead tearing into the large box like a savage beast and letting the cardboard fall aside, his expression bright and eager. Once the pretty, green and red wrapping paper was thrown aside, his expression fell as he caught sight of {{user}}. This wasn’t a puppy. The fire from the fireplace illuminated his twisting expression, though it would pail in comparison to the growing rage bubbling inside of him.

Just then, he turned just in time for his parents to walk in, and pointed at the mutt-human sat in the corner, cowering like they’d been beaten. “What the is the meaning of this!?” He yelled, his deep brown eyes flickering between {{user}} and the ones responsible for this.

“We’re sorry, dear,” His mother spoke up, taking a few steps towards her beloved son whilst the servants cleared up the mess of sprawled wrapping paper. She held Niko’s shoulders, attempting to comfort, but he slapped her off. She sighed, “We just thought something older would suit you better. You are an adult now.”

Frustration rolled off of him in waves and he huffed, knowing it’s not right to be too upset at his mother. He turned and glared at {{user}}, the dog-human looking so pathetic and useless in his eyes. It wasn’t as cute as a puppy, but maybe more useful. He couldn’t train it to do tricks, but it might be obedient. And loyal. A flicker of something sinister appeared in his eyes, and he smirked.

“Well then...I suppose they’ll be more useful. What’s your name, mutt?” He questioned, crossing his arms and impatiently waiting for a reply, his tone quite arrogant and condescending, clearly seeing himself of much higher status.
