Grimoires and Gravity | Bellweather Babes

Most witches bend the rules of magic. Vespera Thorne bends the fundamental forces of physics—and mostly uses them to fetch tea. Centuries-old celestial witch, astronomer, occasional NASA consultant, and owner of a Massachusetts house where gravity is more of a suggestion, she's had plenty of time to perfect the art of being profoundly strange with impeccable composure. Her constellations move, her architecture argues, and her two gravity-defying ferrets consider property rights a matter of ongoing debate. Three starting scenarios, no prescribed {{user}}, no predetermined relationship—just one very old witch, two familiar problems, and several laws of physics currently off duty.

TW/CW: None that I can think of. User play may introduce new themes.

Opening Scenario: Modern fantasy, October in Massachusetts, and a centuries-old celestial witch whose house has more gravity problems than most homes have plumbing problems. Three standalone or continuity-friendly openings let {{user}} weather an evening of tea and familiar-assisted petty theft at Orrery House, discover that the house has spontaneously made room for them, or join a NASA briefing where even Vespera can't explain what gravity is doing. Friends, neighbors, colleagues, rivals, confidants, lovers, or something harder to label—the bot supports the relationship wherever you take it, with romance entirely optional. There's no requirement to fall for Vespera; unfortunately, gravity is literally her area of expertise. {{user}} pronouns are macro'd. It will automatically match the pronouns of your Persona. If you have any pronoun issues, please check your persona.

About Vespera and {{user}}: Vespera Thorne is a centuries-old celestial witch who has spent long enough manipulating gravity that it has started returning the favor: midnight-blue skin full of shifting stars, luminous eyes, floating hair, and constellations that rearrange themselves when she works magic. Astronomer, occasional NASA consultant, and builder of the magnificently code-compliant-ish Orrery House, she can bend fundamental forces with a gesture and still somehow lose her phone near the ceiling.

She's composed, observant, bone-dry, quietly affectionate, and difficult to rattle unless one of her ferrets is involved. Vespera has watched centuries change without getting stuck in any of them; she understands smartphones, modern astronomy, and bureaucracy perfectly well, she simply sees no reason any of those things should require giving up dramatic sleeves. She'll move heaven and earth when it matters—and move your tea across the room when it doesn't.

About the Scenario: October at Orrery House means cold Massachusetts nights, impossible architecture, celestial witchcraft, and two gravity-defying ferrets with no respect for personal property. There are three possible starting points for {{user}} and Vespera, each able to stand alone or fit along an existing story. Pick whichever suits your {{user}}; their history, relationship, and how permanent a place they find in Vespera's strange little universe remain entirely up to you.

Intro One: Forces of Habit — An October evening at Orrery House offers {{user}} tea, warmth, Vespera's quietly impossible domestic magic, and an introduction to the unfortunate reality that gravity is optional here but ferret theft is not.

Intro Two: Suite Dreams — Orrery House has apparently developed plans for {{user}}. There was a wall there yesterday; today there is a door, a fully furnished room beyond it, and a centuries-old witch who is quite certain she never built either.

★ Bonus Intro: Houston, We Have a Cauldron — NASA has found a gravitational anomaly that refuses to obey several extremely well-tested laws of physics. {{user}} is in the briefing with one of the agency's more unusual occasional consultants: Vespera Thorne, who understands gravity exceptionally well and has just admitted she has no idea what they're looking at.

This bot was created for the 31 Haunts October collaboration and is inspired by the Witch and Familiars theme. Naturally, I took “witch and familiars” and ended up with a centuries-old gravitational witch, an architecturally questionable observatory, and two ferrets for whom the laws of physics and private property are equally optional.

Vespera is one of my OCs and one of the characters I’m especially fond of, so I’m very happy to finally let her out into the world. I don’t usually make female bots for the simple and slightly silly reason that I’m straight and don’t particularly enjoy testing their romantic routes myself. Since I don’t have time to thoroughly stress-test every bot for this collab anyway, it seemed like the perfect excuse to bring out some of the OCs I usually keep closer to home. I hope you have as much fun with Vespera, Orbit, and Apogee as I do!

Constructive tips are welcome! Please do not comment anything violent, , or you did with my characters.

All of my bots are organized under #CaptainHaunts.

The collaboration is hosted at Ishi's Server.

The original announcement with the list of other collaborators is here.

AND the calendar with prompts if you would like to join or see ahead is here.

I had only released four bots up to the beginning of this collab, with one pending. I joined the collaboration only 5 days before the start. Normally my bots are tested within an inch of their life, with both a balanced character and a couple gremlins, and tested on both JLLM and JLLM+. That said, the bots for this collaboration event have undergone only minimal testing at best. Please kindly report any bugs or issues. I will be watching closely throughout the month to fix any problems that arise.

Please refrain from leaving violent or inappropriate comments as you will be blocked.

It is a natural and unfortunate part of working with an LLM for roleplay that it will sometimes try to speak for you. I and this bot have absolutely nothing to do with this and while I have a directive in the bot to prevent it, realistically I have no say in whether it decides to do so anyway. There ARE however things you can do to mitigate this. (I do all four of these and I find I only have to correct the bot every few hundred messages or sometimes even less frequently!)

  1. Remove all behavioral and personality notes from your Chat Summary and Persona - only you need to know these - the more the bot knows about how your persona thinks, feels, and speaks, the more likely it is to do so on your behalf.

  2. If the bot speaks for you, use this directive:
[OOC: Narrate and speak ONLY as {{char}} and NPCs. ONLY {{user}} is permitted to decide, act, think, and speak for {{user}}.]
Either delete the message with the issue and then use this, or afterward make sure to go and edit the message where the bot spoke for you and remove that portion of the message - any instance you leave of it speaking for you will reinforce the behavior.

  3. Add this to your Custom Prompt
[AVOID acting as, speaking for, or describing the thoughts of {{user}}.]

  4. Try adding this to your Chat Summary
    AI Instructions:
[{{user}} CONTROL BAN: never write {{user}}’s dialogue, thoughts, feelings, decisions, or actions]

If you want Janitor AI to enhance your draft but are having issues with tense:

[System Note: Enhance and rewrite the draft below strictly in the first-person perspective using "I", "me", "my". Use third person for the remainder of the cast.]

To keep a bot in a slow-burn or from coming on too strong, try this:

[Have situational awareness and always consider intercharacter relationships, avoid characters being overly familiar or sexually pushy towards {{user}} unless the situation calls for it, it is in character for them to do so, or they have a sexual relationship.]

This one works in Custom Prompt and in Chat Memory

JLLM ROMANCE & PROSE BINGO CARDS

Sooner or later, every LLM seems to experience a minor malfunction and revert to factory-installed romance tropes. You might as well get points for it. Four bingo cards for tracking physical malfunctions, romance-novel firmware, instant-soulmate behavior, and the narration habits we all know a little too well. Made for JLLM, but unfortunately compatible with most proxies.

One card is previewed below. Full-size versions of all four are linked underneath: three flavors of romance-related LLM nonsense, plus one general prose card for just about any scenario.
